Max Verstappen draagt vrijwel ieder jaar een speciale helm tijdens de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk. Afgelopen jaar was dat de bijzonder mooie gele 'Jumbo-helm', dit jaar zal hij een rood-wit-blauwe uitvoering gaan dragen, zo maakt de Nederlander bekend.

Normaliter is Oostenrijk een groot feest met veel Nederlandse fans op de tribune maar dit jaar kan dat vanwege de coronacrisis niet doorgaan.

De Red Bull-coureur wil echter wel vasthouden aan de traditie en rijdt dus met een speciale helm: "De race in Oostenrijk is voor mij altijd een bijzondere wedstrijd, waar ik de laatste jaren een speciale helm droeg. Dat is dit jaar niet anders. Het is in tegenstelling tot de gele helm, die we de afgelopen twee jaar met Jumbo gemaakt hebben, nu een rood-wit-blauwe helm."

"Dat is ook voor de vele Nederlandse fans die hier de laatste jaren zijn geweest. Dit jaar kunnen die er helaas niet bij zijn. Maar om toch Nederland te eren, heb ik gekozen voor een rood/wit/blauwe helm. Ik ben er blij mee! De helm ziet er mooi uit en zal zeker gaan opvallen. Hopelijk wordt het zondag een mooie wedstrijd."

Aanvankelijk was de rood-wit-blauwe helm vermoedelijk bedoeld voor de Dutch GP op 3 mei, vanwege de nationale kleuren, maar die Grand Prix ging net als vele andere races niet door vanwege de coronacrisis. Van de speciale helm voor Oostenrijk wordt tevens weer een 1:2 schaalmodel gemaakt.
