Christian Horner: "We zullen ons aan de corona regels houden in Boedapest"

Volgens Christian Horner zal de Formule 1 dit weekend het hoofd bieden aan de draconische maatregelen om verspreiding van het coronavirus in Hongarije te voorkomen. De teambaas van Red Bull verwijst naar het feit dat het Verenigd Koninkrijk en enkele andere niet-Europese burgers dit weekend volledig beperkt zullen zijn tot het circuit bij Boedapest of hun hotel.

Omdat de mogelijke straffen gevangenisstraf inhouden, ging het gerucht dat de Formule 1 het bezoek aan Hongarije zou afbreken. Volgens Horner zal de Formule 1-paddock zich echter houden aan de strikte regels: "Ik moet toegeven dat dit gezien de huidige omstandigheden niet geheel onverwacht was. Eerst en vooral gaan we naar Boedapest om te racen. Normaal gesproken brengen we zoveel tijd op de baan door dat we bij terugkomst in het hotel toch geen tijd hebben om de stad te verkennen."

"Onze focus zal liggen op wat er op het circuit gebeurt en niet op het ongemak om opgesloten te blijven in een hotelkamer. We weten dat we een gat moeten dichten om te vechten voor dit kampioenschap en dat is wat we zullen doen."

Verdediging Albon

Horner maakte ook van de gelegenheid gebruik om Alex Albon nogmaals te verdedigen tegen beschuldigingen dat hij niet snel genoeg is om de teamgenoot van Max Verstappen te zijn. Vooral na de tweede race in Oostenrijk kwam er veel kritiek op de jonge Red Bull-coureur.

"Laten we niet vergeten dat hij de week ervoor terugkwam van een sterk weekend waarin hij Lewis uitdaagde voor de overwinning. Het laat alleen zien hoe kort het geheugen is dat mensen hebben in de Formule 1 en ze snel dingen weer vergeten."

"Alex verbetert zijn ervaring, hij heeft een goed gevoel voor wat de auto doet en dat is heel bemoedigend. We willen allemaal dat hij slaagt en laten we niet vergeten dat hij slechts elf races met het team heeft gedaan terwijl Max in zijn zesde seizoen zit."

@Golf-GTI, Misschien heb jij er niet zoveel verstand van, maar ik werk in een ziekenhuis en de werkelijkheid ziet er toch iets minder " grieperig" uit.

De hel die ze moeten doorstaan, mag je zo maar niet je mooie hotelkamer uit tussen de race sessies door. Och arm, ik hoop dat ze het overleven.

Waarom maakt de media zoals GPToday hier zo'n onzinnig grote heisa over? Er is helemaal niks aan de hand.

  niet alleen GPToday maar alle reguliere media en regeringen maken een heisa over een virus wat welke a) al minstens sinds 2013 bestaat en b) haar "dodelijkheid" in zich dezelfde categorie bevindt als influenza (A/B) (beter bekend als griep)....

  Nee Golf-GTI, ik heb geen enkele moeite met de maatregelen die genomen worden tegen deze ziekte. Met name omdat ik over empathisch vermogen heb en mensen ken die 100% zeker dood zouden gaan aan dit "griepje" van je en dat beetje ongemak is een stuk minder erger dan ook nog maar 1 extra dode.
  
  Net zoals de teams het een biet zal wezen dat ze in het hotel moeten blijven, die snappen de ernst ook echt wel.

  Hier in Duitsland hebben we anders een "ondersterfte" en zeker ter vergelijking met de griep epidemie van 2018 zijn er tot nu toe viel minder mensen (in D.) gestorven met/aan CoVid19. Zie publieke data zoals bij CIDM online.

Ik vraag me toch af... zou Albon soms de "mindere" onderdelen krijgen van de Red Bull? Het komt weleens voor dat er veel meer wordt gefocust op de coureur met de betere status. Op zich logisch, maar het verschil is hier wel heel groot. Te groot.

Ben niet zo van de complottheorieën, maar vindt het toch wel een interessant discussieonderwerp.
