Nico Hulkenberg vertelt over zijn afgelopen 24 uur

Het moet één van de meest gekke dagen uit de carrière van Nico Hulkenberg zijn. De Duitser, geboren net over de grens in Duitsland in Emmerich am Rein, was op weg naar de Nurburgring om te racen en commentaar te geven toen hij een telefoontje ontving van de teambaas van Racing Point.

Hij kent het team goed uit zijn tijd bij Force India, aangezien grotendeels alle mensen die daar toen werkten, nu ook actief zijn. Dat alles op het laatste moment geregeld moest worden blijkt wel uit het feit dat hij vandaag reed in een reserve-overall van Lance Stroll en ook de reserve-schoenen van de Canadees droeg.

De 24 uur van Nico Hulkenberg

De Hulk vertelde na afloop van de trainingen hoe hij de afgelopen 24 uur had beleefd: "De afgelopen 24 uur waren wel speciaal. krankzinnig en wild, zo kan ik het wel noemen."

"Gistermiddag om 16:30 uur kreeg ik het telefoontje van Otmar Szafnauer en nam hier een vliegtuig richting Engeland. Daarna ben ik tot 2 uur 's nachts met het team samen gaan zitten. Vervolgens om 8 uur een uur in de simulator gaan zitten om voorbereidend werk te doen. Het was een korte nacht, maar allemaal de moeite waard."

"Het is een geweldige inspanning van het team en ik wil de jongens van de nachtploeg bedanken die uitstekend werk hebben geleverd om me vrij comfortabel in de auto te laten voelen. Ook de FIA moet ik bedanken voor het zo snel acteren zodat ik weer een geldige superlicentie heb om F1 te kunnen rijden. Het was heel bijzonder. We hebben het programma vandaag in elkaar gezet; leg een flink aantal ronden af en vooral zo veel ronden rijden als het kan. Ik ben hier in het diepe gegooid en ik weet zeker dat mijn lichaam het morgen en de dag erna zal voelen. Het is een enorme uitdaging, maar ik ben er klaar voor."

      Een podium voor de Hulk is ergens toch wel onrealistisch daar hij altijd choked in het zicht van de finish.

    Top voor Hulk. Sympathieke gast die ik dit zeer gun. Ik verwacht hem niet op het podium, maar een finish in de top 6 zou knap zijn. Vergeet niet dat hij niet als de meeste andere coureurs zwaar getraind heeft deze winter. Nek, rug en armspieren hebben het met tot 5g versnellingen en vertragingen nogal zwaar. Ik wens hem het best haalbare resultaat toe.

    Dit maakt het saaie f1 seizoen toch weer leuk. alles is onvoorspelbaar. Hulk doe je best en pak je podium. Dan maak je iedereen blij. ;)

    toch wel goede tijden gezet. Denk dat robert kubica die meer recent een wagen heeft gereden , dat niet na kan doen... Moet toch aar doen in een vreemde auto

    Ik ben benieuwd hoe veel races hij gaat rijden. Perez ligt immers al niet erg lekker bij Racing Point, nu hij zijn stoeltje dreigt kwijt te raken. Reizen naar Mexico was waarschijnlijk het grootste risico. Hij kan zelf misschien wel voorzichtig zijn geweest, zijn medereizigers wellicht niet. Mexico zit momenteel in de piek. De vraag is of hem dat intern kwalijk wordt genomen.

    Ook kan het wel even duren voor hij negatief test. Ik verwacht dat hij na een negatieve test past 2 weken erna weer mag rijden. Drie races voor Hulk lijkt mij zeer waarschijnlijk. Als Sergio ziek wordt, kan het wel eens langer duren eer hij weer fit genoeg is.

    Hulk zou wel eens een flink deel van het seizoen kunnen rijden, en als de relatie met Sergio en RP verpest is, dan misschien wel het gehele restant van het seizoen.

      Daarnaast is hij in Mexico gezellig met zijn familie op stap geweest waarbij hij restaurantjes heeft bezocht en is hij daarna op vakantie gegaan naar Italië waarbij hij wederom lekker op stap is geweest en restaurantjes heeft bezocht.

      Maar vervolgens wél onbegrijpend een verklaring voorlezen waarin hij aangeeft in zijn "bubbel" te zijn gebleven en nietbte snappen waar hij het kan hebben opgelopen.
      Checo, de hele wereld kan gewoon op je insta meelezen waar je uithangt en wat je doet!
      Daar kan je beter niet over liegen.

      Daarom zeg ik; Welkom terug Hulk.
      En pak dat podium!

      @Evert van der Pick: Wáár liegt Checo dan? Het enige wat hij zegt is dat hij niet wete of hij het in Mexico of Italië heeft opgelopen.

    Als de Hulk op de een of andere manier een podiumplek weet te scoren dan is dit seizoen alsnog helemaal geslaagd wat mij betreft.
