Gunther Steiner: "Moeten Gene tevreden houden, zodat hij doorgaat"

Gene Haas heeft al aangegeven niet zeker te weten of hij door wil gaan met zijn team Haas F1 in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Gene Haas moet gaan beslissen of hij zijn Formule 1-team wil behouden of ermee stopt en dan vermoedelijk zal verkopen.

Het team heeft sinds de coronatijd de auto niet ontwikkeld en geeft toe geen grote ontwikkelingen door te voeren, omdat ze het team weer willen stabiliseren. "We gebruiken dit jaar om onszelf weer te stabiliseren na de pandemie en om ervoor te zorgen dat we volgend jaar in een betere positie zijn", zei teambaas Gunther Steiner op Silverstone.

De Concorde-overeenkomst loopt over een paar maanden af en de nieuwe reglementen gaan in 2022 in. Het doel voor dit en volgend jaar is Gene Haas tevreden te houden om in 2021 en erna mee te kunnen doen en zelf in 2022 uit te blinken. "Je wordt elk weekend geëvalueerd als je gaat racen, dus laten we eens kijken hoe we hem gelukkig kunnen houden", zei Steiner.

De situatie betekent dat de toekomst van de twee coureurs van Haas, Romain Grosjean en Kevin Magnussen, ook bijzonder troebel is. Vooral omdat de coureurs steeds lastiger punten halen en soms te grote fouten maken.

Magnussen heeft nog niet over zijn toekomst gesproken. "Ik heb niet met Gene over de toekomst gesproken", vertelde Magnussen aan de krant BT, te midden van berichten dat Haas een optie voor hem heeft voor het seizoen 2021, maar die optie is nog niet gelicht door het Amerikaanse team. "Daar raak ik niet bij betrokken. Ik probeer het gewoon zo goed mogelijk te doen op het circuit en dan hoop ik natuurlijk dat Gene dit project wil voortzetten. Voor zover ik weet, is daar niets nieuws aan."

Ik vind het jammer dat het nu niet zo goed gaat met Haas. Het team geeft kleur aan de F1. Ik zou het begrijpen als ze het niet redden, maar wel heel jammer vinden. Ik begrijp niet waarom Romain Grosjean en Kevin Magnussen daar nog rijden. Daar ben ik niet bepaald "fan" van.

  Nee, ik ook niet. Gooi Newgarden in de auto van Grosjean en Hulkenberg in die van Magnussen.
  
  Ik vind Haas ook een leuk team. Zou jammer zijn als ze van de grid verdwijnen.
