Robert Doornbos: "Zelfvertrouwen van Alex Albon is zeer laag"

Alexander Albon kent niet de start van het 2020-seizoen zoals hij vooraf had gehoopt. Ook dit jaar legt hij het af tegen Max Verstappen en is het gat tussen de Nederlander en de Thaise Brit steevast 5 tienden of meer. Het zelfvertrouwen van Alex Albon is daardoor tot onder het vriespunt gedaald. Dat is de mening van voormalig Red Bull-coureur Robert Doornbos.

Verwijzend naar een geval van onderstuur in een van de snelle bochten op Silverstone zoals Albon vrijdag oefende, vertelde Doornbos aan Ziggo Sport: "Als kijker ziet het er spannend uit, maar als je dit als coureur overkomt, zakt het zelfvertrouwen onder nul. Als je bij zulke snelheden geen vertrouwen in de auto hebt, kun je niet tot het uiterste gaan."

"Albon weet niet wat hij van zijn auto kan verwachten. Dat is nu het grote probleem met Red Bull en het verklaart waarom Albon een seconde toegeeft aan Max. Als hij in een Mercedes stapte, zou hij niet zo ver achter Hamilton staan, misschien 5 tienden maar Max zou in de buurt staan van Lewis of sneller zijn."
