Toto Wolff ontkent flexibele achtervleugel van Mercedes

Formule 1-teams zijn altijd op zoek naar meer snelheid en aerodynamica is daarmee één van de pijlers waar de winst behaald kan worden. In het verleden is er vaak gekeken naar flexibele voorvleugels en ook vooral de manier waarop dat getest wordt. Onder andere Red Bull Racing met Adrian Newey stond erom bekend zeer flexibele voorvleugels te gebruiken, maar allemaal wel binnen de marge.

Op de onboardcamera's is ook vaak het verschil te zien. Op het rechte stuk buigen de zijkanten van de voorvleugel door en zodra er geremd wordt komen ze weer omhoog.

Mercedes ligt momenteel flink onder vuur. Het team wordt ervan verdacht technische geheimen aan Racing Point te hebben doorgegeven over de W10, zodat Racing Point met haar kopie van de W10, de RP20, goed voor de dag kan komen. Nu komt het nog meer onder vuur te liggen aangezien er beweerd wordt dat Mercedes zo snel is vanwege een flexibele achtervleugel. De achtervleugel zou achterover buigen, iets wat op foto's is vastgelegd door fotografen.

Teambaas Toto Wolff ontkent tegenover motorsport-total.com dat dit zo is: "We hebben geen flexibele achtervleugel. Ik weet niet wat voor soort foto's ze hebben gezien, maar we proberen niet eens in de buurt van een grijs gebied te komen, vooral niet met flexibele onderdelen."

"Misschien moeten ze ergens anders gaan zoeken", reageerde Wolff geïrriteerd.

Ik denk dat Toto zich een beetje verkeken heeft met RP een copy van 2019 te geven[verkopen, andere teams zijn aan het zoeken, of weten al over aantal zaken.

1° verdraaing van de camerahoek tov het te fotograferen/filmen object, geeft al een heel ander perspectief.. Jammer dat het filmpje niks laat zien van de Mercedes vleugel..
