Max Verstappen: "Ik hoop dat er morgen wat regen valt"

Max Verstappen start morgen vanaf de derde positie aan de Grand Prix van België. De Nederlander reed een prima kwalificatie en deed wat van hem wordt verwacht. De derde plaats leek het maximaal haalbare, maar achteraf bleek hij te snel zijn energie te hebben verbruikt waardoor hij vlak achter Bottas kwalificeerde en niet ervoor.

De 22-jarige Limburger baalde en liet dat duidelijk horen over de boordradio aan Red Bull. Verstappen was toch tevreden, zo gaf hij na afloop aan in het gesprek met Paul di Resta. Max Verstappen: "Over het algemeen is het tot nu toe een positief weekend voor ons. We kwamen hier naar Spa-Francorchamps in de wetenschap dat het lastig zou worden. Om op de derde plaats te starten, vlak achter Valtteri Bottas, over het algemeen kan ik er tevreden mee zijn."

"Het rondje was op zich goed. Ik was wel te vroeg door mijn energie heen, maar het wordt over het hele rondje aan de motor gegeven dus uiteindelijk maakt dat niet heel veel uit denk ik. Ik ben tevreden over vandaag."

Regen tijdens de race

De Nederlander hoopt tijdens de race dat er wat regen valt en daarmee wisselende momenten. Verstappen: "Er zijn morgen veel mogelijkheden. Als je naar de rondetijden kijkt en het verschil naar Lewis Hamilton denk ik niet dat we om de winst kunnen vechten met hem. Je weet echter nooit hoe het hier loopt, vooral met het weer, dat maakt het moeilijker voor iedereen als er wat regen valt. En het geeft ook wat meer plezier en sensatie, vooral op dit circuit!"

Zou het niet fijn zijn indien Mad Max, Albon publiekelijk bedankt had voor de tow die hij heeft gegeven? Want vraag mij af waar hij zonder die toewas geëindigd.

  Zonder die tow was Verstappen als 4e geëindigd in de kwalificatie. Dat was van de tijd van zijn eerste ronde in Q3 toen hij Albon een tow gaf.
  
  Ik had verwacht dat zo'n objectief iemand als jij dat wel zou hebben gezien.
