Ralf Schumacher: Vettel kan er maar zo een jaartje tussenuit knijpen

Volgens Ralf Schumacher gaat Sebastian Vettel er een jaartje tussenuit volgend jaar. De Duitse oud-coureur zegt dat het nu wel 'heel heel erg stil is' rondom de viervoudig wereldkampioen.

Vettel praat met Racing Point voor een mogelijk stoeltje volgend jaar in het team dat dan onder de naam Aston Martin zal opereren in de Formule 1. Ondertussen lijkt Sergio Perez steeds zeker om binnen het team te blijven en dat maakt de situatie voor Vettel niet duidelijk.

Ralf Schumacher zegt in gesprek met de Duitse tak van Sky "Hij moet gewoon zorgen dat hij voor zijn teamgenoot blijft de laatste races, en dan moet hij thuis maar eens gaan overpijnzen of hij nog wel verder wil", aldus Schumacher.

Omdat het nu wel erg stil is rondom Sebastian Vettel, denkt Schumacher wel te weten welke kant het nu op gaat. "Het is nu wel heel, heel erg stil rondom hem, dus dat kan maar zo betekenen dat hij heeft besloten om er een jaartje tussenuit te gaan."

Zuur zou het wel zijn voor Sebastian, nadat hij in 2014 begon aan zijn gedroomde baan bij Ferrari. Zijn hoge verwachtingen kwamen niet uit, het team bleek het niet te kunnen bijhouden in het hybride tijdperk en op bepalende momenten maakte Vettel zelf ook nog eens cruciale fouten.

Zo spinde hij uit kansrijke posities voor eigen publiek in Duitsland, maar ook in Italië spinde Vettel meermaals in het rond voor de ogen van de Tifosi.

In de Italiaanse sportkrant Gazetta dello Sport zegt Vettel geen spijt te hebben van zijn overstap van Red Bull Racing naar Ferrari in 2014.

"Ik heb geen spijt van die overstap naar Ferrari. Ik heb dan weliswaar geen titel behaald in mijn tijd bij Ferrari, maar ik sta nog altijd volledig achter die keuze. We hebben goed en slechte momenten gehad en ik genoot er altijd van in het moment", aldus Vettel in een gesprek dat veel weg lijkt te hebben van een afscheidsinterview.

Hij zegt: "Uiteindelijk komt alles tot een einde en dat is het dan. Ik ben alweer bezig met nieuwe doelen", voegt hij eraan toe.

Alhoewel iedereen buiten de F1-wereld Vettel graag in hun auto wil zien, lijkt Vettel daar niet direct opzoek naar te zijn. Hij lijkt zijn pijlen te richten op een plek waar hij echt mee kan strijden volgend seizoen, of hij houdt ermee op. Alhoewel dat laatste..

"Ik kan stoppen en thuis op de bank gaan zitten, maar ik vind de Formule 1 nog altijd heel erg cool. Ik weet nu dat ik alleen zou willen kiezen voor een team dat de ambities heeft om grote doelen te behalen."

Of Vettel het lukt dat te bereiken is dus afwachten.

Wat moet Vettel nog? 4x WK, daarna naar Ferrari om onsterfelijk te worden. Is het niet geworden en nu alleen nog teams die hem naar de achteruitgang brengen. Zou zeggen ga iets leuks doen, want zijn momentum in de F1 is allang voorbij

  Die is echt nog wel een klap sneller dan die Albon hoor(die gaat Vettel zijn niveau nooit bereiken). Vooral als de RB hem wel ligt. Maar goed. Gaat waarschijnlijk niet gebeuren. Maar ik zou het prachtig vinen. de v´s naast elkaar. Vettel kan tenminste ook een beetje feedback geven en daarna een andere rol gaan vervullen bij RB, Want het is een blijft een legende daar natuurlijk.

  Dat is nou net het punt. Vettel is een F1 liefhebber pur sang. Het liefst een beetje old school, maar de man is echt gepassioneerd F1 liefhebber. Dus F1 rijden is iets leuks voor hem
