Daniel Ricciardo keek met woede naar kwalificatie van F3

Daniel Ricciardo verwacht vanmiddag tijdens de kwalificatie een grote chaos doordat coureurs in een treintje gaan rijden richting start-finish om zo hun laatste snelle ronde te kunnen rijden. De Renault-coureur bekeek gisteren de kwalificatie voor de Formule 3 'met enige woede' toen 30 coureurs een zeer slecht voorbeeld gaven en veel tijden werden afgepakt.

Na een chaotische Q3 voor de Formule 1 op Monza in 2019 liet racedirecteur Michael Masi de teams weten dat er zaterdag een minimale rondetijd van kracht zal zijn om te voorkomen dat coureurs gevaarlijk langzaam rondrijden tijdens de opwarmrondes naar de snelle rondes.

Puinhoop in F3

In F3 was zo'n richtlijn niet van kracht en de sessie werd een grote een puinhoop. Ricciardo zat met woede te kijken in het motorhome van Renault: "Ik heb naar de F3-kwalificatie gekeken en het was een puinhoop. Ik denk dat waarschijnlijk 10 coureurs daarvoor een gridstraf zouden moeten krijgen. Ik keek zelfs met enige woede naar het beeldscherm, maar het was een echt een puinhoop, chaos."

Ricciardo verwacht niet dat de F1 een soortgelijke chaos zal veroorzaken als in F3 of vorig jaar in de F1-kwalificatie, en dat de minimale rondetijd een effect zal hebben. Hij voegde eraan toe: "Ik denk dat we een beetje verstandiger zullen zijn dit jaar. Ik denk ook dat de meesten van ons in dezelfde ronde naar buiten gaan, dus het is eigenlijk gewoon proberen op tijd de laatste bocht door te komen en daarna zou het tijdens de snelle ronde in orde moeten zijn."

"Het komt wel goed. Ik denk dat ze een minimumsnelheid hebben toegepast of zoiets voor de opwarmronden om te proberen niet te veel opstoppingen te veroorzaken, maar ik denk dat het tijdens de kwalificatie leuk wordt."

  Maar het is voor ons ook niet leuk om te zien wat er vorig jaar gebeurde en er dus (bijna) niemand nog voor een echt snelle ronde kan gaan....
