Red Bull's Alexander Albon: "Het wordt lastig tijdens de race"

Alexander Albon denkt dat het nogal spannend kan worden morgen, omdat alles achter de Mercedessen erg dicht op elkaar zit. Als hij zijn snelste ronde uit Q2 wist te herhalen had hij als zevende gestart. Maar na Q3 is de negende startplaats zijn deel.

"Het is niet makkelijk. Het was een troep, Het was behoorlijk listig op de baan. Eerlijk gezegd was ik best blij met mijn ronde, maar het is heel erg strak op elkaar allemaal. We zullen het in de races moeten zien hoe het gaat, want er zitten wel een paar auto's bij die erg snel zijn op het rechte stuk."

De Thaise coureur moest een aantal keren zijn ronde opnieuw doen, omdat hij te wijd ging in de Parabolica, waana zijn tijd werd afgenomen. Albon start met zijn Red Bull Racing-bolide uiteindelijk vanaf de negende plaats, Verstappen start als vijfde. Daarmee staan beide Racing Points en Daniel Ricciardo's Renault ook voor de Red Bull-coureur.

Albon: "Ze hebben niet alleen een inhaalslag gemaakt, maar vooral lijkt het dat circuits met lage downforce hen beter ligt en daarom lijken zij sterk. Het wordt lastig in de race, want alles zit extreem dicht op elkaar zoals in de kwalificatie duidelijk werd. Dus we zullen moeten afwachten hoe het gaat."
