Kevin Magnussen hoopt op gesprek over toekomst bij Haas

Kevin Magnussen wil bij zijn bazen op de koffie en wil niet alleen met teambaas Guenter Steiner in gesprek, maar hij wil ook een persoonlijk gesprek met de teameigenaar Gene Haas.

Zijn kansen om ook in 2021 en daarna in F1 te blijven zijn beperkt. Blijven bij het Amerikaanse team lijkt zijn enige kans om zijn F1-loopbaan voort te zetten.

Het lijkt erop dat van de huidige coureurs Romain Grosjean en Kevin Magnussen hooguit één plek over blijft binnen het team.

Guenter Steiner zei eerder te willen kiezen voor of de huidige coureurs, maar ook zelfs een scenario met twee jonkies te overwegen samen met teameigenaar Gene Haas.

Nico Hülkenberg

Eerder al werd duidelijk dat Haas ook gesprekken voert met Nico Hülkenberg. Na diens invalbeurt in de twee Grands Prix op Silverstone dit jaar maakte hij op velen in de paddock indruk, Ross Brawn liet optekenen dat de Duitser een plekje op de Formule 1-grid verdient en Steiner lijkt ook gecharmeerd van de vriendelijke Duitser, die overigens een aardig woordje Nederlands spreekt, aangezien hij bij Arnhem vlak over de grens opgroeide.

Ferrari-talenten: ene meneer Schumacher..

Steiner heeft ook de mogelijkheid om te kiezen uit de kweekvijver van jonge Ferrari-talenten. Daarbij rijdt ook ene meneer Mick Schumacher, hij wist zaterdag te winnen in F2 op Monza. Ook Callum Ilott en Robert Shwartzman behoren tot Ferrari-junioren.

Mattia Binotto zei over alle drie de rijders: "Kijkend naar volgend jaar, denk ik dat zij alledrie een kans in de Formule 1 verdienen."

Magnussen zegt dat zijn huidige team 'een optie' is voor 2021. Hij vindt dat de tijd dringt en wil dus snel praten over volgend jaar.

"Het wordt tijd om om tafel te gaan en de toekomst te bespreken", zegt de coureur tegen de BT krant die wordt verspreid in zijn thuisland Denemarken.

Conclaaf

Guenter Steiner vertelde bij Sky Sports dat komende dagen naar de VS vliegt en in conclaaf gaat met Gene Haas over de bezetting van volgend seizoen. En dus heeft Magnussen haast.

"Ik zal moeten praten met Gene. Alles anders zou gek zijn, toch?"

"Ik weet alleen niet of we zullen praten over de toekomst. We hebben nog niets afgesproken dus moeten we afwachten."

Wil Gene ook met Kevin praten?

De 27-jarige coureur lijkt weinig andere kansen te hebben in de F1, hij zegt dan ook blij te zijn als hij kan blijven.

"Ik zou natuurlijk verder naar voren willen staan en om de punten willen vechten, maar ik zou niet willen zeggen dat ik gefrustreerd ben. Ik geloof in een zonnige toekomst voor het team."

Magnussen is de Takuma Sato van deze generatie, hij weet regelmatig voor spektakel te zorgen op het circuit en laat regelmatig zijn tanden als racer zien. Het is zaak dat hij zijn auto dit weekend op het grijze gedeelte weet te houden als hij zijn kansen wil verhogen.

Hij brengt spektakel, maar buiten dat ben ik niet onder de indruk van de talenten van Kevin. Ik zal hem niet missen en ik denk de F1 ook niet
