Pierre Gasly: "Ik vloog bijna tien keer van de baan met versleten rubber"

Pierre Gasly zegt dat het weinig had gescheeld, of hij had zomaar naast de baan gestaan zonder punten, laat staan de overwinning. AlphaTauri-coureur kan het nog amper beseffen dat hij gewonnen heeft in Monza tijdens de Grand Prix van Italië.

Gasly keek later nog even terug op de race en vooral het deel na de herstart, waarin hij meteen de tweede plek pakte. "Ik heb zo hard doorgereden aan het begin van dat deel om een gat te slaan en de jongens achter me geen kans te geven om in de slipstream te komen", zei hij.

Versleten rubber

"De laatste vijf rondjes waren zo zwaar dat ik bijna tien keer doorschoot omdat ik zo hard reed en mijn banden versleten waren"

De Fransman en zijn team profiteerden optimaal van het besluit om net voordat de safetycar de baan op kwam de pitsstop te maken. "Dit hadden we op geen enkele manier kunnen plannen", zei Gasly. "Ik denk dat we vandaag een kleine engel hadden die over ons waakte. We hadden heel veel geluk."

Sollicitaties

Gasly solliciteert met daad, maar ook met woorden naar de hogere positie in de Formule 1. Zo droomde hij onlangs nog weg rondom de vraag "Wat als.."

Pierre zegt na zijn overwinning: "Ik denk dat al die sterke resultaten beloond moeten worden, maar we zullen zien wat er gaat gebeuren."

Als anderen laten afweten, slaat Pierre Gasly toe

Tijdens knotsgekke Grands Prix duikt Gasly steeds op waar anderen het laten afweten. Vorig jaar in Brazilië eindigde hij op de tweede trede van het podium nadat Verstappen de race wist te winnen. Alexander Albon had daar moeten staan, totdat hij door Lewis Hamilton's fout van het ereschavot werd gekegeld.

Knap dat hij de druk kon weerstaan. Voor de rest gaat hij gewoon in rijtje van 1 gp winnaars net zoals Panis en Alesi.

  Sinds wanneer is de waarheid zeggen het spectaculairder maken? Het is gewoon zoals het is. Zelfs Saintz kon dat beamen. Die zag Gasly en zichzelf vele malen beetje glijden.

  Sainz zat in de vuile lucht, dat maakte het moeilijker. Bovendien leek de AT beter te trekken uit de bochten, daarentegen had de McLaren een hogere topsnelheid.

Is wel is goed dat nu een andere rijder in the Picture staat, alleen hij zal nu denken dat hij in de RBR zal komen, en ik denk dat Horner dat niet meer wil,. Ze moeten Gasly ervan overtuigen dat hij beter op zijn plek is waar hij nu zit, AlphaTauri.
