Kevin Magnussen: "Op dit moment niet in onderhandeling met Haas"

Kevin Magnussen zegt dat er op dit moment geen onderhandelingen zijn met Haas over zijn stoeltje voor 2021. Het kleine Amerikaanse team sluit compleet nieuwe line-up voor 2021 niet uit, eraan toevoegend de coureurs die in 2021 racen voor het team, sowieso ook in 2022 plaatsnemen achter de stuurtjes, als het nieuwe tijdperk van de F1 in zal gaan.

Tegenover Ekstra Bladet zegt Guenther Steiner: "Iedereen vraagt wat we doen voor 2021. Ja, je zult altijd willen presteren en je best willen doen maar met waar we nu staan, moeten we focussen op 2022. Niets is zeker, maar 2022 is de kans."

Snel contract regelen

Verwacht werd dat teameigenaar Gene Haas afgelopen weekend naar Monza vloog om de onderhandelingen met de coureurs te beginnen, maar Magnussen ontkent dat dit het geval is. De Deen zei dat hij toch graag snel de boel geregeld wil zien: "Er zijn nog geen onderhandelingen met Haas geweest. Ik wil natuurlijk dat het allemaal zo snel mogelijk geregeld is."

"Het is geen geheim dat ik gelukkig en tevreden ben waar ik ben. Ik wil deel uitmaken van hun comeback naar de top van het middenveld, want daar voel ik dat ze thuishoren."

Op de vraag of Haas zijn enige optie is om volgend jaar in de Formule 1 te blijven, antwoordde Magnussen: "Niet per se. Maar er zijn geen echte onderhandelingen met andere teams."

Haas B-team van Renault

Haas heeft veel van zijn chassisproblemen van 2019 voor dit jaar verholpen, maar het team blijft nu achter in het veld vanwege het afgenomen motorvermogen van Ferrari. Er gaan geruchten dat Haas zou kunnen besluiten Ferrari te laten vallen en in plaats daarvan het 'B'-team van Renault te worden.

"We veranderen nu niets", benadrukt Steiner. "Naar mijn mening zou het ook niet optimaal zijn als het budgetplafond in het spel komt. Met de situatie op dit moment en ook met de pandemie moeten we gewoon deze moeilijke periode doorstaan, misschien zelfs een beetje tot volgend jaar en dan kijken naar de nieuwe regels in 2022, wanneer we het hopelijk weer beter zullen doen."

  Als K-mag een hagelgeweer meeneemt naar de onderhandelingstafel is die Haas mooi het bokkie.

Qua rauwe snelheid.... is Magnussen echt zo slecht niet... maar er moet helaas te veel kloppen om die snelheid eruit te krijgen bij hem... Te vaak zit hij in de grindbak (best knap trouwens met alle tilke baantjes) of parkeert hij m om een vreemde reden weer eens in de garage (of helaas voor Lewis en Antonio er net voor) Ik heb lang gezegd dat ik hem nog niet zo slecht vind om in F1 aanwezig te zijn, maar ik kijk dit jaar redelijk fanatiek de F2... en ik zie me daar 3 tot 4 rijders die zeker diezelfde rauwe snelheid hebben, maar met meer kans om nog als ruwe diamant bijgeslepen te worden dan Kevin. Ik zeg: Compleet nieuwe Line-up 2021: Hulkenberg en Schwartzman.

  Het plan was ooit om de amerikaan Santino Ferrucci, die een paar jaar geleden in dienst van Haas was, op termijn te laten promoveren. Maar die is inmiddels persona non grata geworden na zijn misdragingen in de F2

Haas. zou er het beste aan doen om een Amerikaan in de auto te zetten en een jonge gast.
De huidige rijders laten op bepaalde momenten onwaardig gedrag zien en daarbij lijken ze ook vastgeroest.

Van motorleverancier wisselen zal er helemaal niet in zitten voor Haas ben ik bang, terwijl ik ook denk dat ze met Renault beter af zijn.
Maar de ophanging, versnellingsbak, eigenljjk alle non-listed parts zijn van Ferrari, dus dan zouden ze die ook zelf moeten gaan ontwikkelen. Hebben ze inmiddels wel een eigen windtunnel, of gebruiken ze die van Ferrari ook nog steeds?
