Teambaas AlphaTauri: "Eind oktober duidelijkheid over coureurs voor 2021"

De coureursituatie van Red Bull voor 2021 zou volgende maand duidelijker moeten zijn. AlphaTauri-teambaas Franz Tost zegt dat het nu nog niet duidelijk is welke coureurs waar rijden volgend jaar, al staat het vast dat Max Verstappen bij Red Bull Racing zal rijden.

Grote vraag is uiteraard wat men bij Red Bull gaat doen met Pierre Gasly, nu Helmut Marko zegt dat Monza-winnaar Pierre Gasly in 2021 de teamleider van Alpha Tauri zal blijven, lijkt het ook waarschijnlijk dat Daniil Kvyat zijn stoel zal verliezen.

In gesprek met Speed Week zei Tost: "Gasly rijdt geweldig, terwijl Daniil wat tegenslagen had met enkele fouten van de kant van het team. Zijn ongeval op Silverstone was bijvoorbeeld de schuld van het team."

Alle tijd om te beslissen

Normaliter is AlphaTauri (voorheen Toro Rosso) sowieso niet bij de eerste teams die haar coureurs voor het volgende jaar bekend maken. Dit kan ook nog wel even duren, zo zegt Tost tegen Sport1: "Het is allemaal te vroeg. Kvyat kan nog niet helemaal met de auto overweg, maar dat kan veranderen."

De Honda en Red Bull-coureur Yuki Tsunoda vormt echter de waarschijnlijke opvolger van Kvyat. De 20-jarige Japanner heeft een sterk eerste half jaar gehad in 2020 in de F2, dus op de vraag wat Tsunoda moet doen om een AlphaTauri-stoel te bemachtigen, antwoordde Tost: "Ga zo door! Tsunoda doet het geweldig in zijn eerste F2-seizoen, dat klopt. Maar het is eigenlijk heel simpel: degenen die het snelst rijden, krijgen de stoeltjes aan het eind van de dag."

De Oostenrijker maakte ook duidelijk dat niet hij de beslissing neemt maar Red Bull: "Er zijn maar twee mensen bij Red Bull die beslissen over de coureurs voor onze vier auto's, en dat zijn Dietrich Mateschitz en Helmut Marko. Ik denk dat we eind oktober meer zullen weten."

door te zeggen dat ze zich verheugen op de volgende 50 races
samen met AlphaTauri nav de eerste 50 races afgelopen weekend.

Ik zou de druk opvoeren op Tsunoda door hem te zeggen dat als hij zich in de top 3 rijdt bij de F2 dat hij alleen dan een zeer grote kans maakt op het stoeltje. Kunnen ze meteen testen hoe hij met die druk omgaat. Los van of hij dat daadwerkelijk moet doen. Maar als hij dan niet bezwijkt maakt hij mijns inziens de meeste kans op het tweede AT stoeltje

  Als ik het zo in schat dan zal het Gasly / Tsunoda worden. Kvyat zal het veld moeten ruimen vrees ik. Daarnaast is Tsunoda niet zo slecht hoor en doet ook mee om het kampioenschap in de F2.

Als ze Tsunoda kiezen, dan is dat vanwege Honda. Maar Honda zal ook moeten kiezen wat ze na 2021 gaan doen. Dit lijkt mij voor Red Bull een topprioriteit om hier zekerheid in te krijgen.
Kan zomaar zijn dat het stoeltje geven aan Tsunoda samenvalt met een bevestiging van Honda om langer in de F1 te blijven.
