Red Bull: "Bandenslijtage zal cruciale rol spelen in Mugello"

Het team van Mercedes is vrijwel het hele seizoen dominant. De W11 van het Duitse team presteert bijna op elk circuit zeer goed maar heeft ook een zwaktepunt in het ontwerp. De wagen vreet banden en vooral in warme weersomstandigheden hebben Lewis Hamilton en Valtteri Bottas te maken met hoge slijtage van de banden.

Volgens Red Bull Racing gaat de bandenslijtage een cruciale rol spelen voor de zege op het circuit van Mugello, tijdens de Toscaanse Grand Prix. De Formule 1 zal komend weekend voor het eerst racen op het circuit van Mugello. Meerdere teams hebben in het verleden getest op het bergachtige circuit, maar mede doordat ze hier voor het seizoen geen rekening mee hielden, weten ze nog relatief weinig van dit circuit. Een van de dingen die Red Bull wel weet, is dat het relatief zwaar zal zijn voor de banden.

Mugello vreet banden

In de preview voor de race zegt de engineer van Max Verstappen dat Red Bull Racing hier rekening mee houdt. Gianpiero Lambiase: "Mugello is berucht om zijn schurende en bijtende asfalt, dus als het dit weekend erg heet is, zullen de banden het flink te verduren krijgen. Pirelli zal hun sterkste rubber meenemen om daarmee om te gaan, maar de degradatie kan nog steeds hoog zijn."

Warm zal het zeker worden in Mugello. Volgens de huidige voorspellingen wordt het hele weekend rond de 25 graden in Italië. Lambiase hoopt dan ook dat het hele weekend warm wordt, zodat ze zich hierop kunnen voorbereiden. Die wens lijkt uit te komen. Ook op vrijdag en zaterdag is het rond de 25 graden en bovendien zijn alle dagen zonnig.

  Ze hadden beter de C2,C3 en C4 mee kunnen nemen, dan hadden we weer zo'n race gekregen als de 2e op Silverstone.

Omdat er 1 race was waar mercedes moeite had met de banden is het nu inneens hun zwakke punt. De race daarop was nog warmer en iedereen verwachtte dat Mercedes problemen zou krijggen met de banden. En ze hadden dus geen enkel probleem. Elk circuit heeft zijn eigenaardigheden en soms heeft Mercedes last met de banden, soms Red Bull en soms Ferrari. Ditis een beetje valse hoop geven.

Ik vind het een beetje voorbarig om te zetten dat Mugello berucht is om de stijtage van de banden! Over welke race heeft de engineer van Max het eigenlijk?

Verder verwacht ik dat alles na Mercedes heel dicht bij elkaar zit.
