Max Verstappen: "Sergio Perez is niet minder dan Sebastian Vettel"

Na maanden van speculaties is de kogel door de kerk gegaan. Sebastian Vettel zal volgend jaar rijden voor Racing Point / Aston Martin. Sergio Perez verliest zijn stoeltje en dat is niet geheel onverwacht gezien de verhalen die de afgelopen maanden in de paddock rondgingen, onder andere over de ontsnappingsclausule.

Voor Perez blijven er weinig opties over, maar bij Haas staat hij zeker op een lijstje mede vanwege zijn sponsorbudget. Haas en Perez hebben de afgelopen jaren bovendien al vaker geflirt met elkaar maar tot een deal kwam het vooralsnog niet.

In de paddock is er ook gereageerd op het nieuws dat Perez moet vertrekken en Vettel volgend jaar de stercoureur zal zijn die alle aandacht op zich weet gericht. Zo vertelde Max Verstappen tegen het Duitse RTL dat hij niet vindt dat Perez onder doet voor Vettel.

De 22-jarige Nederlander: "Ik denk niet dat Sergio Perez veel langzamer is dan Sebastian Vettel. Sergio Perez heeft het niet verkeerd gedaan bij Racing Point. Voor Sebastian Vettel was Aston Martin de enige optie denk ik om in de F1 te blijven."

Ook voormalig F1-baas Bernie Ecclestone is een supporter van de viervoudig wereldkampioen en bovendien bevriend met Vettel. Ecclestone: "Seb had niet echt een keuze, maar Aston Martin kan wel eens goed uitpakken voor hem."

"Mocht Mercedes stoppen als fabrieksteam dan zou het zomaar kunnen dat Aston Martin die positie over weet te nemen. Beide merken werken bovendien samen in de autoindustrie, dus als dat gebeurt heeft Sebastian Vettel de juiste keus gemaakt."

  Dat ook is een interpretatie van de schrijver. Volgens mij is Verstappen alleen fan van zichzelf. Heel normaal voor F1 rijders.

Ja, precies, maar daarin is hij wel consistent. Ook eerder zei hij al eens dat hij alleen Vettel had genoemd, omdat-ie bij het Duitse RTL zat. Vraag me wel af, waarom hij dit nu weer moet benadrukken, wat anderen alleen maar denken.

Ik zou zeggen zet Perez naast Verstappen volgend jaar in de Red Bull. Die blijft echt wel binnen 4 tienden met gelijk materiaal. Dan kunnen Gasly en Albon het uitvechten bij Alfa Tauri.

  Je mag dan wel titels en overwinningen hebben, maar ook dan zal je in minder materiaal niets klaar maken....dat blijkt nu maar weer.....
  Zegt weinig over de snelheid van de coureurs, persoonlijk denk ik ook niet dat Vettel sneller is, zeker nu niet.

  Mee eens, maar wat Sergio al in de Sauber en vervolgens in de Force India heeft laten zien, is wel van zeer goede klasse. De banden-fluisteraar heeft helaas nooit een goede auto gehad. Zijn periode bij McL kwam zeker weten te vroeg voor hem. Ik zie hem leuke dingen doen in een Fer/RB/Merc. Als hij blijft zien we hem denk ik volgend jaar bij Haas en Grosjean zal vervangen.
