Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner in zijn nopjes met podium voor Alexander Albon

Het podium voor Alexander Albon stemt Christian Horner vrolijk, alhoewel er verdriet is over de uitvalbeurt van Max Verstappen.

Christian Horner reageert na de race bij Sky Sports F1.

Horner: "Ik ben blij voor hem. Hij wordt sterker en sterker. Hij moest er echt voor knokken en koos het om het via de moeilijke weg te doen. De starts waren best verschrikkelijk vandaag. Het is echt indrukwekkend. Hij sloeg terug en om eerlijk te zijn is hij gedurende de laatste raceweekenden steeds sterker geworden. Hij laat echt zien dat hij een goede racer is als hij eenmaal zijn helm op heeft. Dit podium zal hem zelfvertrouwen geven en nu denkt hij niet alleen dat hij snel is, maar weet hij het ook gewoon."

Albon wist de harten van de mensen te stelen die voor hem werken

"Albon geeft echt goede feedback en daarmee heeft hij echt de harten van de monteurs van het team gestolen."

Critici de mond gesnoerd

Afgelopen tijd krijgt Albon veel kritiek. Zo pleit Lewis Hamilton openlijk ervoor dat zijn game-vriend Pierrre Gasly de plek van Albon zou verdienen naast Max Verstappen. Jan Lammers zei afgelopen week dat Albon ronduit slecht presteerde. Ook Palmer denkt dat Gasly een snellere teamgenoot zal zijn voor Max Verstappen. Helmut Marko is alle ongevraagde adviezen meer dan zat en zei zelfs dat Lewis Hamilton vorig jaar nog totaal het tegenovergestelde bepleitte.

Nieuwe ronde, nieuwe kansen

Dit weekend gold voor Albon: nieuwe ronde nieuwe kansen. De eerste kans heeft hij dus goed opgepakt op de zaterdag, de tweede pakte hij ook met beide handen aan door op het podium te klimmen na de uitvalbeurt van Verstappen.

Tijdens de persconferentie afgelopen donderdag bleek dat Alexander Albon zich voorbereid had in de simulator, maar dat Max Verstappen drie weken geleden een hele dag heeft kunnen rondrijden in een GT-auto om het circuit te leren kennen.

Ik vind het niet triest dat je blij bent voor je pupil die zoveel over zich heen heeft gekregen en zijn eerste prodium ooit scoort.

Zoveel om over tevreden te zijn is er ook niet , zonder die herstarts had hij nooit een podium gereden want voor de laatste herstart was hij steeds meer terrein aan het verliezen op ricciardo en zat norris in zijn nek te hijgen, dus een wereldrace was het voor mij zeker niet van hem

  Misschien ook het probleem wat Max had in Monza ? Kwam ook niet weg.., en Nee 1 zwaluw maakt nog geen zomer , maar dit podium kan veel doen voor het zelfvertrouwen van Albon

  Klopt dat hij de herstart(s) nodig had om op het podium te komen maar liet alexander (mr outside) Albon liet wel weer mooie dingen zien. Goed voor het zelfvertrouwen, zat dit weekend dichter op Max.
  Albon lijkt de weg naar boven gevonden te hebben nu is het een kwestie van deze weg te vervolgen.

  beetje triest hoe kun als als team baas zelfs maar een beetje in je nopjes zijn nadat weer een kans op winst of misschien zelfs dubbel podium door de plee te hebben gespoeld en je enkel een troostprijsje verdient.

  Zeker wel goed gereden van Albon. Bottas moest pitten en kwam achter Albon te zitten. Dat lukte niet met Hamilton. Maar voor het eerst had hij een rol in de strategie kunnen spelen. In ieder gaval bij een normale race.
  
  Hij moet nog net een stapje maken om ook bij Hamilton in het pit window te komen.

  @ramon klopt echter dit team gaat niet voor de troostprijs en om dan te zeggen dat dit resultaat je tevreden stemt dat noem ik triest.
  Hij had moeten zeggen Albon heeft het perfect gedaan die heeft het weekend een beetje gered maar wij als team hebben voor de 2e keer in 2 weekenden de boel verkloot en dat mag niet.

Er wordt hoog spel gespeeld met de motor van Max om hem enigszins in de buurt van de mercedessen te laten blijven en dan gaat het mis .Je ziet dat op het rechte stuk de Honda het niet haalt zonder DRS ,de overtakes gebeuren allemaal op het laatste nippertje in tegenstelling met de anderen die voor de bocht al de positie halen

Pff, ,dat dus,, al die podiumklanten die blij zijn met een incidenteel “succesje” ... dit soort races heeft dan misschien wel een hoge amusementswaarde maar ik ben er nooit zo van onder de indruk, staatsloterij is ook leuk vooral als je wint.. Matechitz moet de bezem is door de RB leiding halen,... Maar ja,is waarschijnlijk zelf teveel vrindjes met horner en marko om het objectief te bekijken
