Jean Todt: "Ferrari van nu niet te vergelijken met mijn periode in 1993"

Jean Todt vindt dat Ferrari moet kunnen herstellen van zijn verrassend diepe inzinking in 2020. Sinds de FIA-president een controversiële geheime overeenkomst met het team uit Maranello bereikte over zijn twijfelachtig legale 2019-motor, is Ferrari naar het middenveld afgezakt qua prestaties.

Ondanks de hoogtepunten van het beroemde team is het bekend terrein voor Ferrari. Toen Jean Todt zijn contract tekende in 1993 om Ferrari's teambaas te worden verkeerde het Italiaanse team in een soort gelijke crisis.

Tegen Auto Motor und Sport zei de Fransman: "Ik hou er niet van om iemand te zien lijden, wie het ook is. Daarom probeer ik eerst de redenen te begrijpen. Ik kan alleen maar zeggen dat het Ferrari van vandaag niet te vergelijken is met het team dat ik in 1993 overnam. Ik had graag zo'n basis gehad. Ferrari is vandaag een sterke organisatie."

Tijdens zijn lange geschiedenis in de Formule 1 die de mijlpaal van 1000 races bereikte in Mugello, hield Todt toezicht op het toen ongekende niveau van succes in het Michael Schumacher-tijdperk.

Volgens Todt heeft die mijlpaal van 1000 races hem niet emotioneel gemaakt. De FIA-voorzitter: "Het is een groot aantal, maar ik werd er niet emotioneel van. Ik was als kind fan van Ferrari, daarna ben ik werknemer geworden en nu ben ik een neutrale toeschouwer. Mijn hoofdstuk bij Ferrari is voorbij."

      Nee je wou insinueren dat Ferrari door hem word voorgetrokken. Gaan we weer... Mercedes zeker niet uit de wind gehouden de afgelopen 7 jaar.

      De reden van de geheimhouding blijft gissen.
      Maar ik geloof niet dat je kunt stellen dat Ferrari ongeschonden uit die strijd is gekomen, iedereen, die daar plezier aan beleeft, kan zich elke week vergapen aan de staat waarin de Scuderia zich nu bevind.
      Dit is misschien wel een van de meest ingrijpende beslissingen die de FIA ooit richting een team heeft genomen.

      Als ik ze de laatste weken zie rijden kan dit best wel eens kloppen ja wat je stelt , alleen zou de FIA dit ook vantevoren hebben geweten / gerealiseerd ?
      Al hoop ik wel dat die nieuwe motor waar ze nu schijnbaar mee bezig zijn volgend seizoen Ferrari terug naar de topplekken brengt want dit is ook geen doen zo .

      Alleen snap ik dit motorenverhaal niet volledig , huidige motoren mogen met tokens worden aangepast vanuit het oogpunt de kosten in te perken , maar een peperdure nieuwe motor mag dan weer wel ?

      De FIa heeft McLaren dispensatie gegeven, die leggen er immers een nieuwe Mercedes motor in en nemen afscheid van de Renault.
      Ze gingen ervan uit dat niemand een compleet nieuwe motor zou ontwikkelen voor slechts 1 jaar, Ferrari doet dat dus wel, ze hebben ook weinig keus en maken hiermee gebruik van een hiaatje in de regels, die ontstond door de motorleverancier ruil van McLaren.

    Mijn vrouw was in 1993 ook een Ferrari, na het inruilen bleek het inderdaad niet veel meer dan sjoemel VW Bora.

    Misschien is dat juist het probleem een sterke logge organisatie die niet makkelijk veranderd.
