Ferrari bouwt compleet nieuwe simulator ter voorbereiding op 2022

Ferrari geeft enkele miljoenen euro's uit om de komende maanden een gloednieuwe simulator in Maranello te laten bouwen. Dat heeft teambaas Mattia Binotto bekend gemaakt. Het Italiaanse team bevindt zich middenin een flinke crisis en Binotto peinst er niet over om zijn positie als teambaas op te geven.

Tegen Corriere della Sera zei Binotto over het bouwen van de windtunnel: "Het is een aanzienlijke en dure investering. We hebben het over enkele miljoenen euro's die zijn uitgegeven aan hardware maar vooral aan maatwerksoftware."

Ferrari heeft ook een meer prominente rol toebedeeld aan de bekende ontwerper uit het Michael Schumacher-tijdperk, Rory Byrne. Binotto legt uit: "Als je begint met een blanco vel, heb je ervaren mensen nodig."

Veel F1-teams hebben tegenwoordig een eigen simulator, en kopen die bij Cruden uit Amsterdam. Dit Nederlandse bedrijf heeft onder andere voor destijds Force India en Renault een simulator geleverd.

      Dat is ook precies mijn vraag. Cruden uit Amsterdam maakt software voor race simulatoren. "Veel F1-teams hebben tegenwoordig een eigen simulator, en kopen die bij Cruden uit Amsterdam." Niet helemaal correct, een aantal F1 teams kopen die bij Cruden uit Amsterdam, er zijn ook F1 teams die rFactor Pro als software gebruiken.

      Het gaat om een nieuwe simulator om de data die ze vergaren met hun windtunneltests beter te kunnen analyseren. Iets waar ze al jaren veel moeite mee hebben.

      misschien ook een simulator windtunnel :) aangezien het vrijhandig is wanneer windtunnel tijd is beperkt in gebruik, dus kan je theoretisch je ontwerp veel testen :)

    Dit gaat het om die laatste "state of the art" simulator zoals RedBull er een van heeft. Het voordeel daarvan is dat cfd - windtunnel - simulatie - on track performance naadloos (of toch zo goed als) aan elkaar zijn gekoppeld. Voordeel is dat je daar quasi geen correlatieproblemen meer hebt tussen wat je ontwerpt en effectief op de baan zet. Daarbij komt dat je de stukken die je ontwerpt veel sneller kan uittesten dan je ze geproduceerd.

      maar het was toch RedBull die laatst zei dat de data vanuit de windtunnel niet overeen kwam met de data verzameld op de circuits....

      dat vind ik dan wel weer een vaag iets.

    Een prominente rol voor Rory Byrne? Daar is zelfs Newey jong bij! De beste man is 76. Dan zijn de talenten wel heel dun gezaaid, als je een oude man achter z'n rollator gaat weg trekken.

    Lijkt me verstandig, de huidige windtunnel en simulator bootsen na hoe het is om in de top-6 te rijden, de nieuwe simuleert de achterhoede. Zo ontstaat een betere correlatie tussen de simulator en realiteit ;-)..
