Haas wil geen motoren van Renault

Gunther Steiner heeft de verhalen dat Haas op het punt staat om samen te werken met Renault ontkracht. De speculatie volgt nadat Renault-teambaas Cyril Abiteboul aan heeft gegeven op zoek te zijn naar nieuwe 'partners' om mee samen te werken.

De huidige partner van Haas, Ferrari, heeft het flink lastig en daardoor heeft ook het Amerikaanse team problemen. Teambaas Steiner zei in Sochi: "We springen niet weg op het eerste moment dat er problemen zijn. Gene Haas en ik gaan ervan uit dat Ferrari zijn problemen kan oplossen."

Vast aan Dallara en Ferrari

Hij zei ook dat het een enorme taak zou zijn om over te schakelen naar een andere technische partner. "Onze volledige infrastructuur met Dallara bevindt zich in Italië. Als we met Renault zouden werken, moeten we alles naar Engeland verhuizen."

Grosjean bang voor Ovals

Een ander probleem voor Haas is de invulling van de coureurs voor 2021. Zowel Romain Grosjean als Kevin Magnussen geven toe dat ze mogelijk zelfs gedwongen worden om de F1 helemaal te verlaten. Grosjean ziet een overstap naar de Indycar niet zitten: "De ovals in Amerika maken me bang, maar er zijn enkele interessante opties in Europa."

Magnussen voegde toe: "Ik bevind me in dezelfde situatie als Romain."

Afwegingen en opties

Haas heeft tal van andere opties, waaronder een hechtere band met Ferrari door een jongere coureur als Robert Shwartzman of Callum Ilott aan te trekken. Steiner zegt dat een training op vrijdag dit seizoen zelfs mogelijk is. Steiner: "Ferrari heeft ons dit jaar geholpen toen we in de problemen kwamen met het coronavirus, dus als ze contact met ons opnemen met een verzoek, ben ik klaar om het gesprek aan te gaan."

  Wordt druk op de ovals met ex-F1 coureurs. Volgens mij gaat Perez ook naar de Indycars, en Magnussen zal die kant ook wel opgaan als hij opzij gezet wordt.

  Zoals ik in een eerdere post al aangaf geloof ik niet in een overstap van Haas naar Renault. Renault heeft niks met Amerika en de arrogante Fransen en luidruchtige Amerikanen gaan niet goed samen. Ik zie eerder een verbintenis komen tussen Honda en Haas. Amerikanen en Japanners past veel beter net als dat voor Honda de Amerikaanse markt veel interessanter is. Wat Renault betreft voorzie ik eerder een hereniging met Williams

Grosjean kan beter naar Formule E. Beetje beuken en rijders afsnijden is hij niet vies van en de snelheid is heel wat lager dan op een oval.
