Kvyat niet bang om corona op te lopen in Rusland

Daniil Kvyat heeft de zorgen over de aanwezigheid van toeschouwers dit weekend in Sochi weggenomen. Sebastian Vettel is in strijd met het officiële advies van de Duitse regering naar Rusland gereisd, aangezien het aantal corona infecties in het land is gegroeid van minder dan 5.000 per dag een maand geleden tot bijna 7.000 nu.

Tegelijkertijd zal Sochi de eerste race zijn waar veel fans weer op de tribunes mogen zitten in 2020. Volgens de eerste berichten zijn er geen regels voor het dragen van maskers en het nemen van sociale afstand is zeldzaam te noemen.

Sebastian Vettel vindt de kwestie lastig: "Het is een moeilijke situatie, maar we moeten er natuurlijk op vertrouwen dat de lokale organisatoren en de FIA en FOM voor ons zorgen. Ik heb niet veel toe te voegen."

Ook blijkt dat Will Buxton, een bekende F1-journalist, dit weekend niet in de paddock is omdat hij positief is getest op het virus.

Toen hem werd gevraagd of hij zich zorgen maakt over het niveau van dagelijkse infecties in Rusland in de context van zijn thuisrace dit weekend, zei Daniil Kvyat: "Dit is het tiende raceweekend van dit seizoen en het is aangetoond dat het veiligheidsconcept werkt. Ik ben er zeker van dat toen de Formule 1 en de FIA keken of Sochi door fans bezocht zou moeten worden. De experts goed hebben gekeken naar hoe iedereen goed beschermd zal worden."

  Hoe Rusland er mee om gaat is vrij discutabel. Ze staan wat stappen over voor het vaccin, niet zoals hier alle stappen maar met zo min mogelijk administratieve vertraging zoals bij normale medicijnen. In een wereld waar mensen geen vertrouwen hebben in vaccinaties is dat niet super. In het beste geval is er straks een grote hoeveelheid data van een vaccin wat getest is op een hele bevolking.
