Daniil Kvyat maakt zich geen zorgen: "Ik heb geen controle over Tsunoda"

Daniil Kvyat zegt dat hij geen last heeft van geruchten dat de Japanse Formule 2-coureur Yuki Tsunoda hem in 2020 mogelijk zal vervangen bij AlphaTauri. Tsunoda, die in Sochi pole pakte maar de hoofdrace verloor van Mick Schumacher, wordt sterk gesteund door de motorpartner Honda van AlphaTauri-eigenaar Red Bull.

Aangenomen wordt dat de 20-jarige zijn F1-debuut zal maken in 2021, waarbij Red Bull-baas Christian Horner zegt dat de beslissingen van de coureurs voor Kerstmis moeten worden genomen.

Toen Kvyat werd gevraagd of dat te laat is om naar alternatieven te kijken, zei de Rus: "Ze hebben het recht om beslissingen te nemen wanneer ze maar willen."

Kvyat geeft toe dat hij misschien moet gaan kijken naar zijn opties. Tegen Reuters zei hij: "Mijn manager Nicolas Todt en ik praten vaak over dit onderwerp, en ik vertrouw hem volledig in dergelijke kwesties. De kalender is dit jaar erg druk en op dit moment concentreren we ons op de races. Zoals ik al zei, ik heb vooruitgang geboekt in de laatste races en ik wil op deze manier doorgaan."

Geen controle over Tsunoda

Toen hem specifiek werd gevraagd naar de Tsunoda-speculatie, vervolgde Kvyat: "Ik zit lang genoeg in de Formule 1 om me geen zorgen te maken over dingen die buiten mijn controle liggen, dus ook niet over Tsunoda. Ik kan bepalen hoe ik met de auto rijd, hoe goed ik mijn werk doe, en de afgelopen races heb ik nagedacht over hoe ik mijn auto beter kan begrijpen."

"Gezien mijn ervaring in de Formule 1, let ik niet op dit soort geruchten. Ja, ik zou graag in het team blijven. Ik hou ervan om deel te nemen aan de Formule 1 en om in de snelste auto's ter wereld te rijden. Ik heb 16 jaar hard gewerkt om hier te komen. AlphaTauri heeft de afgelopen jaren grote vooruitgang geboekt en ik zou graag doorgaan. Ik moet echter geduld hebben, kalm blijven en mijn werk zo goed mogelijk doen."

De Russische F1-commentator Alexey Popov denkt dat Red Bull zichzelf kan helpen om Honda te overtuigen om ook na 2021 in de F1 actief te blijven door het contracteren van Tsunoda.

Ik vinfd Kvyat oprecht een sympsymphatieke gast met het soort droge humor wat ik wel kan waarderen. In ieder geval een nuchtere instelling. Vrees voor hem dat dit wel z'n laatste seizoen is en dat er geen plek meer is voor hem in de F1.

  Dat denk ik ook. Maar juist het feit dat hij zegt zich geen zorgen te maken, doet mij vermoeden dat dit juist wel het geval is. En terecht ook denk ik. Kan hij er iets aan doen? Nee, alleen op de baan meer laten zien.

  Hij heeft gasly zijn oren gewassen gister. Ook voor gasly zijn laatste stop reed Kvyat voor Gasly.
