Steiner: "Kevin Magnussen beste starter in de F1"

Haas kent een moeilijk seizoen in de F1. De wagen heeft een gebrek aan snelheid, mede door de Ferrari-motor, maar ook het chassis is niet wat het zou moeten wezen. De resultaten vallen tegen en de coureurs kunnen niet presteren zoals ze zouden willen. Het Amerikaanse team heeft dan ook slechts één punt gescoord tijdens dit seizoen.

Toch ziet Haas-teambaas Guenther Steiner een lichtpuntje in alle duisternis. Dat Steiner geen fan is van Romain Grosjean is al langer bekend, dus de loftrompet die Steiner afsteekt gaat over Kevin Magnussen.

Steiner zegt tegen motorsportweek.com: "Ik denk dat Kevin heeft laten zien dat hij één van de beste starters is, zo niet de beste op de grid. Het was behoorlijk verbazingwekkend wat hij dit jaar met zijn starts heeft laten zien."

In Rusland wist de Deen zelfs op te klimmen van de achttiende naar de tiende plaats. De goede starts van Magnussen zijn echter geen factor die aan de racestrategie kan worden toegevoegd. "Je hoopt er altijd op, maar starts zijn zo onbekend dat je ze niet echt strategisch kunt gebruiken. We hopen altijd het beste, maar het past niet in onze strategische planning."

Interessant weekend in Duitsland

Dit weekend rijdt Haas voor het eerst op de Nürburgring en er is regen voorspeld tijdens de race. "Dat maakt het nog interessanter. Het beste resultaat zal zijn als we een goede race hebben, met veel variabelen, en vanuit ons perspectief naar huis komen met wat punten."

De teambaas van Haas hoopt op een race vergelijkbaar met die van Mugello. "De verrassingen bleven op ons afkomen. Hopelijk gebeurt dit weekend hetzelfde op de Nürburgring."

Ik betwijfel het ten zeerste. Maar zelfs als het zo is dan is daar is dan ook meteen alles mee gezegd.

  Ik moet zeggen dat je tijdens de races, en dan met name eerste helft, de naam Magnussen vaak op 'verrassende' posities terugvind. Na verloop van tijd gaan de tekortkomingen vh materiaal hem parten spelen natuurlijk..
  Maar Magnussen start wel vaak goed, en is ook een betere qualifyer dan Romain

Hoe verder je achteraan staat bij de start, des te meer posities kun je winnen, zeker als je uit de problemen blijft.
