Daniel Ricciardo lacht: "Kunnen gekke dingen gebeuren dit weekend!"

Daniel Ricciardo van Renault denkt dat de Grand Prix van de Eifel een schok zou kunnen opleveren vanwege het slechte weer dat de Nürburgring komend weekend waarschijnlijk zal omringen. Het Duitse circuit dankt zijn aanwezigheid op de 2020-kalender aan de ingekorte F1-kalender van dit jaar door corona, dat de F1 heeft gedwongen zijn kalender opnieuw op te bouwen door zich met prioriteit te concentreren op Europese locaties.

Het nieuws van afgelopen zomer over een terugkeer van de F1 naar de Nürburgring werd enthousiast begroet door de meeste coureurs, maar velen waren ook ongerust over de datum van oktober. De regen verstoorde de 24-uurs toerwagenrace die onlangs op de locatie plaatsvond en heeft de angst voor koud, regenachtig en modderig weer dat komend weekend is voorspeld.

Gekke race

Renault-coureur Daniel Ricciardo kan er zoals bijna altijd, vooral om lachen en kijkt uit naar het weekend in de Eifel: "Het weerbericht ziet er behoorlijk koud en nat uit, dus het zal heel anders zijn dan onze laatste paar races waar het warm is geweest"

"Het zal interessant zijn om te zien hoe de auto zich onder deze omstandigheden gedraagt. Over het algemeen kan het, gezien de tijd van het jaar, een nogal onvoorspelbaar weekend worden, dus we kunnen een gekke race tegemoet gaan. Eens kijken wat er gebeurt, ik ben er klaar voor, ongeacht het weer!"

"Ik heb voor het laatst op de Nürburgring gereden in 2013, dus het is een tijdje geleden, maar ik kijk er naar uit om weer op het circuit te racen", zei de Australiër.
