Max Verstappen waakzaam: "Niemand heeft informatie over de race"

Max Verstappen was weer eens blij voor de camera van Ziggo Sport. De Nederlander kwam de laatste tijd chagrijnig voor de camera van de televisiezender, door de matige resultaten en uitvalbeurten. De kwalificatie voor de Eifel Grand Prix was een goede voor Verstappen. De 23-jarige Limburger nam het voortouw. Al waren Lewis Hamilton en Valtteri Bottas een tikkeltje sneller.

Op de Nürburgring heeft Verstappen niet al te veel ervaring. Hij kon dit weekend maar één uurtje trainen en moest toen al aan de kwalificatie beginnen. Het team waar de Nederlander voor in actie komt, Red Bull Racing, had voor dit weekend nieuwe onderdelen meegenomen.

Door het tijdgebrek, omdat er dus maar een uurtje getraind kon worden, moest Verstappen haast maken. Het lukte hem om een goede set-up neer te zetten en de onderdelen uit te proberen. Hij was tamelijk tevreden over de nieuwe onderdelen. "De nieuwe onderdelen die we mee hebben genomen voelen erg goed aan", zo vertelde de Nederlander tegenover Ziggo Sport. Al was hij nog niet helemaal tevreden met zijn kwalificatiesessie. "We hadden nog veel last van onderstuur, dat was de hele dag al het geval. Misschien zat er wel meer in."

Het weer zat gisteren al niet mee, maar vandaag was het ook niet ideaal. Het was koud en nat, wat natuurlijk niet de beste omstandigheden zijn om te racen. Al weet Max Verstappen dat dat niet uitmaakt voor de Mercedessen die hij moet verslaan. "Door de koude temperaturen en een natte baan kan je niet de snelheid meenemen die je normaal wel mee kan nemen. Maar ja, uiteindelijk is Mercedes nog altijd sneller dan wij zijn. Ik weet dan ook niet wat ik morgen moet verwachten."

Verstappen kreeg nog een vraag over zijn podiumkansen, daar was hij heel nuchter in. "Een podium is het doel. Alles wat daar bovenop komt is mooi meegenomen. Maar niemand heeft nog echt informatie over morgen, dus dat zien we nog wel."

Ik zie het toch wat genuanceerder geloof ik. Puur op snelheid kon hij mee vandaag ja en dat is mooi. Maar in de buurt kwamen ze best wel. Als er zelfs een Ferrari niet ver weg is valt het allemaal nog wel wat mee.
Maar het is nu eenmaal zo dat jij je helemaal laat gaan in superlatieven op het mom... [Lees verder]

Je zag het vandaag: Puur op snelheid kon hij mee en kwam niemand in de buurt. Totdat de ''magische'' kwali 3 van start ging. Er staat geen maat op en het is gewoon met afstand de snelste en beste rijder op dit moment.

Al was het een oezbekistander.

  Maar het is nu eenmaal zo dat jij je helemaal laat gaan in superlatieven op het moment dat Max iets goeds neerzet. Dat mag best hoor, maar hij wordt er niet sneller van. Hij is één van de besten van dit moment, dat klopt. Maar dat is het dan ook.

  zijn Q2 tijd was sneller dan zijn Q3 tijd , er zat uiteindelijk maar 1 tiende verschil tussen de Mercedes en RB16 ,

  Ik moet hier toch een kanttekening bij maken. De SF1000 heeft al het gehele jaren met het op temperatuur krijgen met de banden. Men was geloof ik bang dat dit probleem nog groter zou worden door de herfstige weersomstandigheden. Maar het kan ook de andere kant op werken: doordat ook de andere wagens daar nu last van hebben is het verschil minder groot dan normaal het geval is.
  
  Hoe het ook zij, de Ferrari oogt weer een stukje sterker. Hopen dat Charles morgen een mooi plekje in de top 5 weet te veroveren. Ik heb vorige week een mooi petje van hem gekocht, dus hij moet maar extra zijn best doen, haha!
