Mick Schumacher moet F1-debuut uitstellen tot Abu Dhabi

Mick Schumacher en Callum Ilott krijgen dit jaar volgens Ferrari-baas Mattia Binotto niet nog een kans om in de trainingen op vrijdag te rijden. Leider in het F2-kampioenschap Schumacher en runner-up Ilott, beiden Ferrari Academy-coureurs, zouden respectievelijk in de auto's van Alfa Romeo en Haas rijden op de Nurburgring.

Het weer zorgde er echter voor dat beide vrije trainingen op vrijdag afgelast werden en het is nu onwaarschijnlijk dat de coureurs een nieuwe kans krijgen voor de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi.

Ferrari-teambaas Binotto: "Ik denk dat ze nog een kans krijgen, maar dat zal niet snel komen als je kijkt naar de circuits die eraan komen. Portimao is een nieuw circuit voor iedereen, net als Turkije, en in Imola hebben we maar een 2-daags weekend."

"Daarom is het zeer waarschijnlijk dat ze de volgende kans niet krijgen vóór Abu Dhabi. We moeten geduld hebben. Het is jammer dat het hier niet is gelukt omdat ze zich goed hadden voorbereid in Fiorano op deze kans, maar het weer kan niet worden veranderd", voegde de Italiaan eraan toe.
