Daniel Ricciardo: "Ik ben vergeten uit mijn schoen te drinken!"

Daniel Ricciardo staat bekend om zijn brede lach in de F1-paddock maar ook vanwege zijn 'Shoey'. Het fenomeen deed zijn intrede toen Ricciardo voor het eerst een Grand Prix won, zijn schoen uittrok om vervolgens de champagne van het podium erin te gieten en uit zijn schoen dronk.

Het viel veel mensen op dat hij dit gisteren niet heeft gedaan op het podium bij zijn derde plaats, terwijl het wel zijn bedoeling was. De Renault-coureur stond op het podium naast Max Verstappen en Lewis Hamilton maar vergat spontaan zijn Shoey te doen.

Het is voor het eerst sinds zijn Grand Prix-overwinning in Monaco 2018 dat Ricciardo weer op het podium mocht staan. De lange pauze betekende dat hij een belangrijk deel van zijn persoonlijke feestroutine vergat.

Letterlijk vergeten

Toen hem werd gevraagd waarom hij nog steeds zijn raceschoenen droeg toen hij tegenover de media in 'het vierkantje' stond, besefte de 31-jarige dat er iets ontbrak: de Shoey. Ricciardo besefte toen pas dat hij het was vergeten: "Mate, dit is echt erg, ik ben het helemaal vergeten. Ik ben het letterlijk vergeten."

"Ik zal je vertellen waarom, want zodra ze de champagne hadden gedronken, spoot Max me al onder en voor het eerst koelden ze de flessen. Normaal gesproken is de champagne lauw, maar het was echt ijskoud, misschien omdat het buiten zo koud is. Dus ik was gewoon, denk ik, geschokt door de kou en ik heb niet eens... Wauw, ik ben nu echt teleurgesteld eigenlijk!"

Naderhand heeft hij alsnog in het motorhome van Renault de Shoey gedaan.

Ik kijk nooit naar podium ongein, Maar gisteren wel. Puur omdat ik die ´gek´ een shoe wilde zien doen. doet tie het niet :(

  Het is grappig maar ook smerig. Dat RIC het zelf wil doen ok, maar een podiumgenoot die het niet wil hebben worden door de popies nog als spelbreker uitgejouwd ook.
  Daarom moet RIC het al niet meer willen.
