Günther Steiner over overname Haas: "Gene verkoopt helemaal niets"

In 2014 werd door de FIA een nieuw team aangekondigd: Haas F1. Het was een nieuw jong Amerikaans team dat wilde meedoen om de podiumplekken in de koningsklasse. Het besloot in 2016, een jaar later dan gepland, om met een Ferrari-aangedreven bolide mee te strijden. Ook werkt ze samen met het Italiaanse Dallara uit Parma. Het bedrijf ontwikkelt en maakt het chassis voor het Amerikaanse team van Gene Haas.

Haas was geen onbekende in de autosport. Het team heeft sinds de oprichting 198 punten gescoord in 87 races en twee keer de snelste ronde gereden tijdens een race. Momenteel rijden Romain Grosjean en Kevin Magnussen voor het F1-team dat vanaf drie verschillende plekken opereert, Kannapolis (VS), Banbury (VK) en Maranello (IT).

Vermogen Mazepin

In dit team heeft Dmitry Mazepin interesse. De Russische man heeft een geschat vermogen van 1.3 miljard dollar en kan het team makkelijk overkopen, maar Gene Haas en Gunther Steiner denken niet dat het team door de vader van hun testcoureur zal worden gekocht.

Volgens Steiner is de berichtgeving die de media deed onjuist. "Ik denk niet dat meneer Mazepin zei dat hij het team wilde kopen. Ik ken hem al een aantal jaren, omdat hij zijn eigen teams heeft in de Formule 2 en Formule 3. Ik praat veel met hem en ik kan zeggen dat hij zeer bekwaam en prettig is om mee te praten. Sommige mensen willen misschien dat we het team willen verkopen, maar Gene Haas verkoopt niets."

Twee jaar achteruit

Ook komt hij nog even terug op het stukje jonge historie dat het team heeft en hoe goed ze het doen. "We zijn een jong team, maar de pandemie heeft ons een jaar of twee teruggedrongen", legt Steiner uit.

"Aan het begin van het jaar was het voor ons niet gemakkelijk om het team draaiende te houden, en we wisten niet hoe het zou aflopen. Maar Gene Haas heeft de Concorde-overeenkomst voor de komende vijf jaar ondertekend en het is mijn taak om alles te herstellen."

  Ik denk dat Gene allang blij is dat ze een sponsor gaan vinden met pa Mazepin die in ieder geval geld heeft om de rekeningen te betalen. En dat ze niet weer een ‘Rich Energy’ debacle gaan krijgen. Iemand van die malloot ooit nog wat gehoord? Is die al failliet? Zit hij al in de bak? Ik zie de Energy Drinks van ze nog nergens in de winkels in ieder geval...

  @Rogier: Google is je "beste" vriend..... De website van Rich Energy bestaat nog steeds en volgens de website zijn ook nog steeds bezig met sponsoring van diverse auto- en motorsporten.... Maar hoeveel van die zaken ook weer bubbles zijn is natuurlijk de vraag.... ;)

Stroll kocht ook niet in het eerste jaar een team. Mazepin zal wel een mooie sponsor worden en het is intussen duidelijk dat Haas dit dringend nodig heeft. Gene wil absoluut als Amerikaans team prijzen winnen maar het ingebrachte kapitaal rendeert niet zoals initieel verwacht. (ROIC)

Ik dacht toch echt dat hij CNC-machines bouwt en verkoopt, of gaat het zo slecht in die branche dat hij geen enkele machine meer aan de man kan slijten??? 🤔
