Max Verstappen over Grand Prix van Portugal: "Geweldig circuit!"

Max Verstappen mag komend weekend race op een nieuw circuit voor hem. De in 2008 geopende racebaan in Portugal stond oorspronkelijk niet op de kalender. Door het coronavirus besloot de FOM om naar het land te gaan en het circuit in Portimão op de kalender te zetten.

Sinds 1996 keert de Grand Prix van Portugal terug op de F1-kalender. Op het circuit Autódromo Internacional do Algarve werd nog nooit een Grand Prix gereden, al is deze baan voor Verstappen niet helemaal nieuw, hij mocht eerder dit jaar een aantal rondes in een GT-wagen rijden op dit heuvelachtige circuit.

Regen

De 23-jairge Nederland vindt het een geweldig circuit, zo bevestigt hij in een gesprek met Red Bull. "Het is een geweldig circuit! Ik was er een paar dagen en het regende het grootste gedeelte van de tijd, maar het was toch gaaf om er te rijden, helemaal op de natte baan."

Verstappen verwacht een leuk weekend. "Het zit vol met hoogteverschillen en de lay-out is erg cool. Het is deels technisch, maar over het algemeen is het een snel circuit, dus ik kijk er naar uit om daar nu met een Formule 1-auto te rijden. Ik ga graag naar nieuwe circuits, het is voor iedereen iets nieuws en dat kan dingen door elkaar gooien, wat het interessant maakt."

Door het goede resultaat in Duitsland is Verstappen positief gestemd over komend weekend: "We hebben een goed weekend gehad op de Nürburgring en ik denk dat we een stap vooruit hebben gezet met de auto. We leken dichter bij Mercedes te zitten, wat erg positief is en met een nieuwe baan, kijk ik er naar uit om te zien wat we kunnen bereiken."

Hij gaat winnen. Heb een voorgevoel. Mits geen problemen met de wagen. Ferrari gaat het ook goed doen denk ik. 3e team hier. Zit met geluk wel een podium in voor charles.
