Pierre Gasly over GP Portugal: "Wil vechten tegen Ferrari"

Voor de AlphaTauri-coureurs gaat het een belangrijk weekend worden in Portugal. Ze kunnen dichterbij het Italiaanse Ferrari komen, mits ze beter scoren dan de renstal. Dit weekend racen we in Portugal op een nieuw circuit wat vrij bochtig is, een voordeel voor de Honda-motor.

Ferrari komt daarentegen met de laatste fase van hun upgrade. Hiermee willen de Italianen afstand doen van AlphaTauri. In het coureurskampioenschap kunnen de coureurs ook goede zakendoen. Danill Kvyat staat momenteel op de viertiende plek met viertien punten. Sebastian Vettel staat een plek hoger met zeventien, ideaal om dit weekend te pakken. Kvyat hoopt morgen te kunnen wennen aan het circuit. “Het is een geweldig circuit. Het ziet er interessant uit met de hoogteverschillen. Ik kan niet wachten om in actie te komen op dit circuit. Vrijdag is er genoeg tijd om aan het nieuwe circuit te wennen, als het tenminste niet in het water valt.”

Vechten tegen Ferrari

Zijn teamgenoot Pierre Gasly zei het volgende tijdens de persconferentie in Portimao. “Ik ben blij bij AlphaTauri. Het is een goed seizoen tot dusver. We hebben nog één jaar te gaan met Honda en het ziet er goed uit. Het is niet aan mij om een beslissing te nemen over de toekomst. Dat is aan Red Bull.”

De Fransman hoopt dit weekend de strijd aan te kunnen gaan met Ferrari. “Zij komen ieder weekend met updates, dus het gaat moeilijk worden om ze in te halen in het kampioenschap, maar niets is onmogelijk.”

Dan hoeven we niet verbaasd te zijn als Pierre morgen bij Ferrari de box binnen loopt om daar wat monteurs in elkaar te rossen.
Of hoopt hij op de baan te kunnen vechten?
In dat geval wil ik hem dat afraden na het debacle van die kart coureur van enkele weken terug.
