Gasly wil niets kwijt over toekomst: "Ik beslis niets"

Huidig AlphaTauri-coureur Pierre Gasly wordt niet gelinkt aan een stoeltje bij Red Bull Racing naast Max Verstappen, maar wel aan een stoeltje bij Alpine F1. Het Franse Renault dat volgend seizoen haar naam wijzigt in Alpine heeft Fernando Alonso al voor het 2021-seizoen. Wie er naast de Spanjaard komt te zitten is nog niet duidelijk, wel is het team blij met Fransman Esteban Ocon. Zijn landgenoot Pierre Gasly lijkt ook kans te maken op dat stoeltje, maar zegt zelf dat zijn toekomst niet door hem wordt bepaald.

Gasly reed al bij een beter team, Red Bull Racing, maar kon de snelheid en druk van Max Verstappen niet aan. Helmut Marko besloot hem daarom in 2019 tijdens de zomerstop te ruilen voor Alexander Albon, die reed toen bij Toro Rosso (nu AlphaTauri). Ondanks alles lijkt Red Bull tevreden te zijn met Albon, maar ook zijn stoeltje staat onder druk. Alleen lijkt dat stoeltje niet opnieuw te zijn weggelegd voor de Fransman. "Ik ben erg blij met AlphaTauri. Dit seizoen verloopt heel goed. Meer dan 60 punten scoren in 11 races is volgens mij het beste dat het team ooit heeft behaald. Ze doen elk weekend fantastisch werk en daar ben ik erg blij mee."

De motorpartner van AlphaTauri en Red Bull Racing heeft bekend gemaakt te stoppen na het 2021-seizoen, maar voordat dat gaat gebeuren wil het team de beste motor bouwen. Dat ziet er volgens Gasly goed uit. "Het is duidelijk dat er nog een jaar bij Honda is en het ziet er volgend jaar redelijk goed uit wat betreft verbetering en evolutie aan hun kant, dus we zullen zien hoe het gaat. Er waren een paar geruchten, maar het is niet aan mij om dit soort beslissingen te nemen. Red Bull beslist wat er gebeurt met de coureurs en zij zijn degenen die de vragen moeten beantwoorden."

Toekomst bij AlphaTauri

Gasly moet wachten op antwoord van Mateschitz en Marko. "Het is duidelijk dat Helmut degene is die de coureurs intern beheert, en de Red Bull-coureurs. Daar is hij en daar is meneer Mateschitz voor, zij zijn de belangrijkste die overleg plegen en de beslissingen maken. Het betekent in feite dat er opties zijn buiten het team, maar zoals ik al zei, van mijn kant ben ik persoonlijk niet betrokken bij alle discussies, dus ik kan niet echt iets zeggen over alle dingen die zijn gezegd."

Ik was eigenlijk in de veronderstelling dat ocon een 2 jarig contract had bij renault. Nu zegt een contract niks maar dat is dan wel de doodsteek voor ocon als gasly komt. Hoe dan ook zal het volgend jaar vuurwerk worden met een fransman en het spaanse haantje

  Ja, het is duidelijk dat Ocon kan vertrekken als Gasly komt
  En dan is het ook einde F1 voor Ocon, want de andere teams willen iemand die veel geld meebrengt. En dat heeft Ocon niet.

  Dat wordt dan Tsunoda. Vips kan volgens mij sowieso niet, want die komt nog punten tekort doordat Red Bull hem in Japan heeft laten rijden en hij deels in de F2 heeft geracet. Die heeft gewoon een jaar verkloot. Mede daardoor heeft die ook nog te weinig ervaring kunnen opdoen in vergelijking met de F2 coureurs.
  
  Gasly schijnt ook niet zo lekker te liggen bij Marko en mogelijk ook bij anderen binnen RB/AT.

Tja als Russel vrij komt zou ik die meteen oppikken als RB. Hoewel Gasly het aardig doet nu heeft hij laten zien dat hij de druk van de absolute top niet aankan. Zelfde voor Albon.

  Russel is een Mercedes protégé, RBR gaat echt geen coureurs van anderen opleiden.
  Alleen als Russel zich losweekt van Mercedes maakt hij een kans, maar dat zie ik niet gebeuren.
