Ricciardo begrijpt Verstappen: "Derde plaats is soms erg vermoeiend"

Max Verstappen reed afgelopen weekend een goede race in Portimao. De Nederlander kon helaas niet verder dan de derde plek komen, wat ook het maximaal haalbare was volgens Max Verstappen. Verstappen baalt dat de Mercedessen niet te pakken zijn en dat snapt zijn voormalig Red Bull-teamgenoot Daniel Ricciardo wel.

De vrijdag begon met de eerste vrije training op het nieuwe circuit. De nieuwe asfaltlaag was lastig voor de coureurs, die worstelden met de grip. Max Verstappen verzamelde vooral data en probeerde het circuit te leren kennen.

De tweede vrije training begon met een bandentest voor Pirelli. Hiermee verloor Verstappen veel tijd. De Nederlander kreeg even later een incident met Lance Stroll, allemaal niet in het voordeel van Verstappen om dichterbij Mercedes te kunnen komen.

Daniel Ricciardo maakte mee wat Max nu ervaart. "De derde plaats is een ondankbare ereplaats. Het is moeilijk, want de auto is gewoon niet goed genoeg. Ik heb het zelf ervaren bij Red Bull. We waren altijd podiumkandidaten en wonnen, maar het was nooit genoeg. Dat is al jaren het geval voor iedereen die niet bij Mercedes rijdt. Erg vermoeiend", zegt Ricciardo tegen NOS.

"Ik denk dat Max gelukkig en tevreden kan zijn. Hij rijdt al jaren heel goed: bloed snel en nagenoeg foutloos. Zijn kwalificaties zijn nu ook foutloos. Ik denk niet dat hij zich nog had kunnen verbeteren."

Uit een ander artikel blijkt dat hij Max wel best vindt voor nu. Oftewel, bla-die-bla, tijd voor een race.

Als Max strakjes in een dominante auto zit , zal er weer een andere coureur eeuwig 3e worden.

Ja echt jammer voor Verstappen dat Ferrari niet de concurrentie kan aangaan. Zo lang dat ding heel blijft van Verstappen rijd hij zonder enige tegenstand naar plek 3. De strategen van Redbull hoeven alleen maar naar voren te kijken. De rondetijden die achter Verstappen worden gereden tijdens de race zijn niet echt spannend/belangrijk meer.
