Valtteri Bottas na pole: "Lewis en Max zullen me morgen gaan uitdagen"

In de kwalificatie van de Grand Prix Dell'emilia Romagna was Valtteri Bottas de snelste man. Hij hield zijn Mercedes-teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton en Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen achter zich. Al wist hij ze in de kwalificatie achter zich te houden, is hij er niet zeker van dat hij tijdens de race Lewis en Max achter zich kan houden, vooral richting de eerste bocht.

Voor Mercedes is het zowat normaal dat hun coureurs zich op de eerste startrij kwalificeren. Meestal is het Lewis Hamilton die pole pakt, maar nu was het een keer de Finse coureur van Mercedes. Bottas sprak na de kwalificatie met Johnny Herbert over zijn pole position. “Pole position behalen is nooit makkelijk. Ik heb enorm genoten van dit circuit, het is echt enorm mooi. Ik wist dat ik in het laatste rondje moest verbeteren en ik heb die kleine verbeteringen gevonden die nodig waren. Het is een enorm goed gevoel als het allemaal lukt”, zo begint Valtteri Bottas.

De coureur met nummer 77 op zijn bolide legt uit waar hij het verschil maakte. “In bocht twee en drie was de snelheid enorm belangrijk en in de laatste paar bochten heb ik ook tijd gewonnen. Ik wist dat ik in de laatste ronde alles moet geven en dat heb ik ook geprobeerd. Ik heb een risico genomen en de auto wist uitstekend te presteren.”

Max en Lewis

Hij eindigde zijn gesprek over de race. “Morgen gaat een gevecht worden. Het is een lang stuk richting de eerste bocht. Geen twijfel dus dat Lewis en Max mij zullen uitdagen richting de eerste bocht. Het is een goede plek om te starten en hopelijk is de snelheid goed morgen.”

Zever niet gast buiten Hamilton heb je in die wagen geen concurrentie. Het steeds zeggen dat het een gevecht wordt met Red Bull ben ik beu gehoord.

Als Max de Mercedessen kan splitten bij een goede start is er strategische wat mogelijk, anders wordt het weer p3 bij geen gekke dingen in de race.

  Wie weet een herhaling van Monza. Na een reeks van voorspelbare races komt er altijd wel weer een gekke onvoorspelbare race. Alleen heb je de hulp van de safetycar of regen nodig.

  Wie het eerste bij bocht 1 is gaat um winnen, ik leg de race-lat zo laag dat het alleen maar mee kan vallen morgen.

blijf iig die poles pakken, je laat ze zo vaak net uit de handen glippen. Over 1 ronde hoef je niet meer onder te doen voor Lewis.

Lewis is al WK(nog niet officieel) dus als je goed wegkomt bij de start dan ben je verplicht te winnen. Max zal wel weer als een drol uit de startblokken komen dus daar heb je geen last van.

Hamilton laat Bottas eerst weer even spartelen en het gevoel geven dat hij kan winnen, waardoor Bottas op de limiet gaat rijden en zijn banden opvreet. Hamilton haalt hem dan na een ronde of 15-20 in en vertrekt aan de horizon. En achteraf begrijpt Bottas dan weer niet waarom hij Hamilton niet kon bijhouden...
