Toto Wolff twijfelt of F1-seizoen afgemaakt kan worden vanwege oplaaiend coronavirus

De Formule 1 is nog steeds nerveus over de aanhoudende impact van het coronavirus, geeft Mercedes-baas Toto Wolff toe. Aangezien blijkt dat de trainer van George Russell geïsoleerd is met symptomen, was de F1 al bezig met het nieuws dat een beperkte menigte van 13.000 toeschouwers per dag was uitgesloten op de race te bekijken vanaf de tribunes in Imola.

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff ziet de situatie langzaam weer erger worden: "Ja, de situatie wordt moeilijker. De Formule 1 brengt niemand in gevaar aangezien we in onze bubbel blijven, maar we kunnen ook niet negeren dat het aantal gevallen in verschillende landen snel groeit."

"Op een gegeven moment kunnen de leiders en overheden van deze landen besluiten om de grenzen te sluiten, wat onze plannen hier in de Formule 1 kan beïnvloeden."

F1-kalender 2021 met 23 races

In de paddock op vrijdag was het onderwerp van de voorlopige F1-kalender met 23 races een hot topic, en velen geloofden dat het ongekende aantal races een te grote last is voor het reizende personeel van de sport. Wolff: "Chase Carey heeft ons verzekerd dat het schema op zijn plaats blijft."

"Maar hij zei ook dat tegen de achtergrond van een voortschrijdende pandemie, niemand weet hoe de situatie over een week, laat staan een maand zal zijn."

Haas-baas Gunther Steiner is het daarmee eens: "Eerst moet je alles plannen wat je wilt doen, en het dan zo nodig aanpassen. Als we gewoon wachten tot de pandemie volledig is verdwenen, kunnen we niets doen, want het kan nog jaren gaan duren"

"Maar we worden slimmer, leren hiermee om te gaan en misschien komt er wel een vaccin, maar er zijn zoveel verschillende aannames dat het geen zin heeft erover te praten", voegde hij eraan toe.

  Geen WCC voor Toto, lijkt me wel leuk om de reactie van Toto te zien. Slaat hij denk ik zijn desk weer doormidden 😉

who cares? Ik ben al blij dat er races waren om te kijken dit jaar. Dat kampioenschap staat toch al 7 jaar vast en dat duurt nog wel 4 jaar.

Ga desnoods voor de gein rijden zonder het hele circus.

  I care! Ik wil graag de race in Istanbul zien, prachtig circuit. Bahrein en Abu Dhabi zijn wat minder met dat verrekte ku(ns)tlicht. Lijkt wel alsof ik dan naar de F1 ESports aan het kijken ben. Maar toch, één race is beter dan geen race.

  idd, mooi dat we toch nog een seizoen gehad hebben. Iets minder mooi dat het weer een mega dominant Mercedes jaar was. De laatste races zijn voor financiële huishouding van de F1 nog wel belangrijk, maar verder redelijk om des keizers baard. Is het afgezien van het geld nog wel zinvol om naar het Midden Oosten af te reizen? Wat mij betreft mogen ze de laatste 3 races skippen.
