Grosjean heroverweegt overstap naar IndyCar: "Ik vind ovals eng, maar ook verleidelijk"

Het F1-team van Haas maakte recentelijk bekend dat Romain Grosjean naar een nieuwe werkgever moet zoeken. De Fransman kijkt al rond buiten de koningsklasse voor een stoeltje. De meervoudig podiumwinnaar heeft zelfs al interesse getoond in de IndyCar-series. Ook kijkt hij met een schuin oog naar andere klasses zoals de WEC en Formule E.

Op een stoeltje in de Formule 1 rekent Grosjean niet meer. "Ik heb het geaccepteerd. Er zijn nu minder zitjes beschikbaar en ik richt mij nu op andere projecten waar ik races kan winnen", aldus de Haas-coureur.

De hoogste Amerikaanse autosportklasse is voor de Fransman een belangrijke optie. In eerste instantie had Grosjean geen zin in een overzeese overstap vanwege de ovals, maar doordat er op de kalender van 2021 nog maar vier speedways zijn, is hij van gedachte veranderd. "Ik heb eerder gezegd dat ik geen interesse heb om naar de Verenigde Staten te gaan, maar er zijn nu minder ovals dan gedacht. Ik vind het eng, maar ook verleidelijk. We zien wel."

De IndyCar is niet zijn enige optie. Ook andere series worden in overweging genomen. Daarbij is het voor Grosjean een belangrijke voorwaarde dat hij weer in staat is vooraan mee te kunnen doen om de winst. "Ik mis het hebben van een competitieve auto. Dat is wat ik terug wil. Formule E is een optie, maar ik kijk ook naar langeafstands racen."

  Ericsson reed vorig jaar in de pitstraat met de indycar haaks de muur in. Hij had zich onsterfelijk kunnen maken met de volgende woorden: 'I think Grosjean hit me.'
  Kans gemist! Of wellicht komt die kans nog een keer...

Oud F1 coureurs in de Indy... ik vind het toch wel leuk en ik let er daardoor altijd een beetje extra op (met name op Takusan!).
Magnussen & Grosjean lijken mij beide een mooie aanvulling voor de Indy.

  Ik denk dat met name Magnussen een mooie aanvulling is voor de Indy, bij Grosjean heb ik meer een Formule E gevoel.
