Kubica: "Ik ben volgend jaar niet op F1-grid te vinden"

Robert Kubica zegt dat hij zeker niet zal terugkeren naar de Formule 1 als coureur in 2021. De Pool is dit jaar in zijn hoedanigheid van reservecoureur van Alfa Romeo op de circuits te vinden, nadat zijn sponsor Orlen dit jaar van Williams naar het Italiaanse team was overgestapt.

Alfa Romeo houdt Kimi Raikkonen en Antonio Giovinazzi in de racestoeltjes voor 2021, terwijl de aanhoudende rol van Kubica onduidelijk blijft. Echter, DTM-coureur Kubica vertelde Eleven Sports op Imola: "De situatie voor mij is vrij duidelijk. Ik zal zeker volgend jaar niet op de grid staan."

"De volgende maand zal belangrijk voor me zijn in termen van wat ik wil doen. Ik heb mijn voorkeuren en prioriteiten en ik moet zien wat er mogelijk is, maar ik zal zeker zal niet racen in de Formule 1."

Kubica steunde de beslissing van Alfa Romeo om volgend jaar zijn coureurs te behouden op basis van het feit dat: "Continuïteit erg belangrijk is voor het team. De keuze voor de coureurs van het team is hier geen probleem, de focus moet op andere dingen liggen."

    Daar gingen we ook niet vanuit. Het was mooi om Kubica weer terug te zien vorig jaar en een prachtige persoonlijke overwinning voor de man zelf, maar echt veel toegevoegde waarde had zijn aanwezigheid niet in de praktijk. Het is goed zo.

    In een discussie over het jaar 2008 dacht ik er nog eens over na. Als je puur kijkt naar prestaties (en gemaakte fouten) dan verdiende Kubica dat jaar misschien wel het meest de titel.
    Het was onbegrijpelijk (BMW kwam fantastisch uit de startblokken) dat juist na het winnen van de Canadese GP, toen Kubica ook de leiding in het WK pakte... BMW besloot om de ontwikkeling van de wagen volledig stop te zetten en niet voor de titel te gaan. Dat zou dan in 2009 moeten gebeuren... in 2008 was alleen het doel om een race te winnen.
    Ik blijf het bizar vinden. Kubica was dat jaar snel en vooral constant. Het stop zetten van de ontwikkeling zou hem zomaar de titel gekost kunnen hebben want juist vanaf dat moment begon BMW aan pace in te leveren.

      Absoluut. Kubica was in bloedvorm dat jaar en BMW had de beste auto die ze ooit zouden hebben. Helaas dacht het bestuur van BMW dat het beter was om te focussen op 2009 en te proberen in dat jaar voor de titel te gaan... daar hebben ze zich flink op verkeken, want in 2009 waren ze nergens te bekennen. Een uitstekend voorbeeld waarom een bedrijf zich niet moet blindstaren op een van tevoren vastgelegd meerjarenplan, en meer flexibel moet kunnen reageren op de situatie van het moment.

      BMW had die titel nooit gewonnen, qua pure pace zaten ze te ver van Ferrari en McLaren. Er waren gewoon ontichelijk veel fouten van Hamilton en Massa die meevielen voor BMW. Het is nou niet alsof Kubica fouten-vrij was:

      Een domme crash met Nakajima in Australië, hij ging er af in Silverstone, in Duitsland was hij ronduit matig te noemen, net als in België,.

    Erg jammer hoe het is gegaan met Kubica. Hij kon zeker de nieuwe Vettel of zelfs Hamilton worden, m.a.w. beste van zijn generatie. Als ik het iemand zou gunnen in 2008 dan is hij dat wel. Ik blijf het erg vinden.. echt jammer.

      Kubica heeft een nieuwe race-overall die hem onzichtbaar maakt, daardoor zal niemand hem op de grid kunnen vinden.
      En iedereen zal verbaasd zijn hoe die lege auto toch steeds de race weet te winnen en waarom de trofeeën uit zichzelf beginnen te zweven.
