Ferrari-teambaas wil coureurs meer straffen: "Grindbakken zorgen voor meer spektakel"

Mattia Binotto zegt dat het installeren van meer grindbakken op Formule 1-circuits zal helpen om "de show te verbeteren". De discussie laait de laatste tijd flink op vanwege het feit dat er dit jaar diverse circuits onverwacht op de kalender zijn komen te staan door de coronacrisis, waar veel grindbakken te vinden zijn. Die circuits zorgen voor spektakel, iets waar de F1 een groot gebrek aan heeft.

Volgend jaar zullen teams slechts beperkte aanpassingen aan hun huidige auto's kunnen maken nadat de geheel nieuwe regelgeving werd uitgesteld tot 2022 te midden van de coronacrisis.

Ferrari-baas Binotto denkt dat het veld in 2022 dichtbij zal zijn. Tegenover Sky Italië zegt Binotto: "Er is weinig ruimte in de regelgeving om iets unieks te ontwikkelen, dus de ingenieurs kunnen nauwelijks innovatief zijn. Maar dat maakt de show beter. De auto's zullen ook niet meer zoveel downforce verliezen als ze dicht bij een andere auto komen, dus inhalen zou makkelijker moeten worden."

De Italiaan vindt echter dat de Formule 1 meer moet doen voor 2022 met betrekking tot de sportieve reglementen en zelfs het basisontwerp van de circuits veranderen. Binotto: "Om de show te verbeteren, moeten we meer doen. We hebben bijvoorbeeld meer grindbakken nodig zodat coureurs echt gestraft worden voor hun fouten. Ik heb gehoord dat er meer grindbakken komen en dat is maar goed ook."

"Een aantal van deze wijzigingen in de regelgeving kunnen het verschil maken. We moeten echt meer doen", voegde hij eraan toe.

Vandaag ben ik Binotto fan!
Het wordt natuurlijk al door velen al zo lang gevraagd. Hopelijk, hopelijk gaan we eindelijk terug naar grindbakken.
De kans op motorpech, of ontploffende banden ;) , is de laatste jaren flink gedaald. Dus de kans op uitvallen is bijna nihiel terwijl dit toch altijd zorgde voor een bepaalde spanning. Het terugbrengen van grindbakken haalt die spanning deels terug, want tot de laatste ronde zullen ze moeten blijven opletten...

(b.v. verplicht een pitstop uitvoeren bij de Ferrari stal... 😂)
