Mattia Binotto waarschijnlijk niet aanwezig bij aankomende Grands Prix

Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto zal dit weekend niet aanwezig zijn bij de Turkse Grand Prix en waarschijnlijk ook niet bij de resterende wedstrijden. Dit doet de Italiaan om de mensen in de fabriek te ondersteunen bij de ontwikkeling van de nieuwe motor voor volgend seizoen.

Ferrari presteert niet zoals we de laatste jaren gewend zijn. De krachtbron is op dit moment de grootste achilleshiel. De motor van de Italianen moest na vorig seizoen een aantal aanpassingen doorvoeren van de FIA.

Mattia Binotto kondigde eerder al aan niet aanwezig te zijn bij een aantal races, maar nu lijkt hij toch alle resterende races van het seizoen niet te komen opdraven. Dit wil hij doen om ook zijn mannen in de fabriek te helpen, zo zegt hij. "Je moet altijd je taken op het circuit en in de fabriek in evenwicht houden, maar de fabriek is waar we de auto ontwikkelen en de wagens voorbereiden", zei de teambaas.

"Ik denk dat ik niet alle races zal volgen, beginnend vanaf Turkije. Omdat aan het einde, wanneer je verantwoordelijk bent voor een heel team, zeker het race-evenement belangrijk is, maar het hele management van het hele team is nog belangrijker."

Wat betreft de goede resultaten van de 2021-motor, onthulde Binotto op Imola dat de power unit van volgend jaar 'veelbelovende' resultaten op de testbank heeft opgeleverd. "Ik denk dat we volgend jaar misschien een compleet nieuwe krachtbron hebben. Als Ferrari hebben we veel geïnvesteerd in de verdere ontwikkeling van de krachtbron voor 2021, bovendien draait de motor voor 2022 momenteel op de testbank."

"Ik denk dat de feedback in termen van zowel prestaties als betrouwbaarheid veelbelovend is."

    Hij is en blijft primair toch een techneut. Dat een teambaas van een historisch F1 team verstek laat gaan de komende races "om aan de toekomstige motor te sleutelen" is in mijn ogen toch wel opmerkelijk. Niet alleen bijzonder dat blijkbaar Ferrari geen directe behoefte heeft aan de teambaas op de circuits, maar ook dat het PU ontwikkelteam in Italië blijkbaar behoefte heeft aan de fysieke aanwezigheid van Binotto.

      Ferrari wil ook een goed voorbeeld geven betreffende de Italiaanse "smart work" wetgeving, die voorschrijft dat bedrijven medewerkers waarvan het niet 100% noodzakelijk is dat zij op kantoor of locatie aanwezig zijn, vanuit huis laat werken of anders teneinde reis bewegingen te beperken.

      Meerdere grote Italiaanse bedrijven geven het goede voorbeeld, door niet alleen lager geplaatst personeel, maar ook directie leden vanuit huis te laten werken of op locaties die onnodig reizen voorkomt.

      @Mr.Monza: OK. Snap ik. Maar waarom wordt dat dan niet als argument gebruikt door Binotto? Nu geeft hij als argument op dat hij de PU guys gaat ondersteunen in de fabriek en dan met name de focus legt op de nieuwe motor. Dat is mi voer voor (onnodige?) speculaties. Het kan de indruk geven dat niet alles helemaal volgens plan loopt met de nieuwe motor, want blijkbaar is Binotto's aanwezigheid hiervoor nodig? Bovendien is hij volgens mij sedert begin augustus geen TD meer, maar fulltime TM; dus dan zou je normaliter verwachten dat hij dan een wat grotere afstand zou bewaren op dat vlak?

    Binotto wordt steeds meer de manager die de Scuderia nodig heeft. Vertrouwen hebben in de mensen die de beslissingen nemen op het circuit en ondersteunen van de mensen die natuurlijk wel degelijk een naar gevoel hebben bij de huidige wagen+motor. Zoveel kritiek doet je echt wel wat als jij daaraan hebt gewerkt. En op afstand communiceren is natuurlijk geen enkel probleem, dat heeft Covid voor eens en voor altijd duidelijk gemaakt.
