Geen straf voor Verstappen maar wel nieuwe versnellingsbak

Max Verstappen is zeer goed begonnen aan het Turkse Grand Prix-weekend. De Red Bull-coureur reed zowel in de eerste als tweede vrije training de snelste tijd. De gladde baan in Istanboel zorgde echter wel voor veel frustraties bij alle coureurs, aangezien het meer leek op rijden op ijs dan echt goed kunnen trainen.

Dit kwam door het nieuwe asfalt, maar inmiddels rijden er veel auto's rond komende nacht in de hoop de olie uit het wegdek te rijden.

De Nederlandse coureur kan morgen de dag weer goed beginnen met een nieuwe versnellingsbak en hopen dat zijn goede reeks van vandaag voortgezet kan worden. Red Bull heeft besloten de versnellingsbak te wisselen maar vanwege zijn uitvalbeurt is dit een wissel zonder gevolgen dus Verstappen zal geen gridstraf hoeven te incasseren.

De 23-jarige Verstappen is echter niet de enige coureur die dit weekend met een nieuwe versnellingsbak rijdt in Turkije. Ook Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Kevin Magnussen, George Russell en Antonio Giovinazzi hebben een nieuwe bak gekregen zonder penalty.
