Max Verstappen kende geen goed begin in Turkije. De Red Bull Racing-coureur kwam erg moeilijk weg bij de start. Hij had het voordeel om vanaf een droge startpositie te starten, maar kreeg zijn auto niet uit anti-stoll. Hierdoor zakte hij ver weg.

Verstappen had duidelijk een off-day in Turkije, dat terwijl na de vrijdag en zaterdag hij eindelijk een reële kans op een overwinning had. Normaal zijn dit omstandigheden waarin hij zich weet te onderscheiden.
