Orlen blijft in F1 maar steunt terugkeer Kubica in rally rijden

Robert Kubica kon fulltime terugkeren naar het wereldkampioenschap rally in 2021, volgens de Poolse krant Przeglad Sportowy. Enkele dagen geleden onthulde de Pool dat hij in de verleiding kwam door een aanbod om de rally in Monza te rijden, maar het zou in botsing zijn gekomen met zijn verplichtingen voor Alfa Romeo als reservecoureur aangezien hij dan in Bahrein aanwezig moet zijn.

Niet full time rally rijden

Tegelijkertijd leek hij uit te sluiten dat hij fulltime zou terugkeren naar de rallysport. Kubica zegt hierover: "Ik heb te veel respect voor de discipline om dat te doen. Je moet alles op de juiste manier doen, en ik weet hoeveel pijn en energie het kost."

Echter, Przeglad Sportowy citeert nu bronnen die geloven dat terwijl sponsor Orlen naar verwachting volgend jaar in de Formule 1 blijft, de oliemaatschappij ook een terugkeer naar de wereld rallying voor Kubica kan financieren.

"De gesprekken zijn goed gevorderd. Er zijn al ontmoetingen geweest met Hyundai en we horen dat beide partijen dicht bij een overeenkomst zijn."

Kubica wil het volgende erover zeggen: "De komende weken zullen zeer belangrijk zijn voor mij in de context van mijn toekomst en wat ik graag zou willen doen. Ik heb mijn voorkeuren en prioriteiten, maar we zullen zien wat er mogelijk is. Als ik erachter kom, zal ik een beslissing nemen."
