Kwalificatie head-to-head: welke kwalificatie-duels zijn nog onbeslist?

Het is algemeen bekend dat in de huidige generatie Formule 1 veel van de performance wordt bepaald door het materiaal wat je in handen hebt. Een goede manier om je relatieve prestatie te kunnen vergelijken is de snelheid in kwalificatie ten opzichte van je teamgenoot. Welke kwalificatie-duels liggen nog open wie maakt er kans op perfecte scores voor het 2020-seizoen?

De duels die nog open liggen

Bij McLaren, Alfa Romeo en Haas kunnen alle zes de coureurs nog het kwalificatie-duel weten te winnen. Bij McLaren staat het duel momenteel op 7-7, waar Carlos Sainz in het midden van het seizoen erg sterk was, maar Lando wist in drie van de vier laatste races sneller te zijn. Antonio Giovinazzi begon het erg sterk, maar Kimi Raikkönen wist het daarna weer naar zich terug te trekken en staat momenteel 8-6 voor. Nog één keer beter kwalificeren en hij wint het kwalificatie-duel voor 2020. Voor de Haas coureurs was er dit seizoen ook niet te zeggen wie nou duidelijk sneller was. Momenteel staan de coureurs 7-6 in het voordeel van Romain Grosjean. Sneller zijn dan je teamgenoot aan het einde van het seizoen is wellicht een mooi troostprijsje, gegeven het feit dat beide coureurs het team zullen verlaten aan het eind van het jaar.

De mogelijkheid tot perfecte scores

In 2020 waren er twee sterren op de zaterdag: George Russell en Max Verstappen. George Russell kan met trots zeggen dat hij op een zaterdag altijd sneller is geweest dan zijn teamgenoot. Dat klopt, in zijn twee seizoenen wisten zowel Robert Kubica als Nicholas Latifi elke keer langzamer te zijn.

Max Verstappen mag echter ook niet ontbreken. Sinds Daniel Ricciardo weg is gegaan bij Red Bull wist Max zijn teamgenoot slechts één keer sneller te zijn in kwalificatie. Dit was tijdens de Grand Prix van Canada in 2019. Echter, dit kan als niet helemaal eerlijk beschouwd worden aangezien Verstappen geen rondetijd kon neerzetten vanwege een crashende Kevin Magnussen. Ook in 2020 wist Max Verstappen elke keer sneller te zijn dan Alexander Albon.

Leuke statistieken. Overigens met betrekking tot de laatste alinea, ik behoor tot de mensen die zouden zeggen "Waarom lukt het anderen wel om een tijd te zetten, maar hem niet?" en het niet als pech wil beoordelen.

  Kijk de quali highlights van dat jaar nog even terug en dan weet je het.
  Zijn eerste run was behoorlijk, maar door de 2e run werd hij naar plek 11 gedrukt en omdat Magnussen 2 seconcen voor het einde crashte, terwijl Max in S1 de snelste tijd neerzette, kon max zijn ronde niet afmaken.

  @RJH, je kan er ook voor kiezen om als eerste te vertrekken zodra het licht op groen gaat. Dan heb je in ieder geval meer tijd. Als er dan iemand crasht kan je nog de pits in en voor een nieuwe ronde gaan.

  Maar je weet ook dat op een semi-stratencircuit waar maar zelden geraced wordt alle beetjes rubber helpen om ene betere tijd neer te zetten, dus wil je daarom ook weer zo laat mogelijk naar buiten op een dergelijke baan.

  @CBR natuurlijk. Iedereen wil vrij baan, iedereen wil een baan met de meeste grip. Da's altijd kiezen of delen. Je kunt niet allemaal als eerste de baan op. Ga je vooraan staan dan heb je koude banden, als je achteraan gaat staan heb je risico's.
  Neemt niet weg dat als een ander vlak voor je crasht , dan is dat niet je eigen schuld.

Uit dit artikel kan je de conclusie trekken dat Russel naar RedBull moet om nog een beetje spanning te krijgen.
