Sergio Perez over F1-vervolg: "Zij zijn mijn enige keuze"

Na dit seizoen bestaat er een kans dat Sergio Perez (huidig Racing Point-coureur) zonder race-stoeltje komt te zitten. Wanneer het huidige Racing Point volgend jaar als Aston Martin doorgaat, zal Sergio Perez vervangen worden door Sebastian Vettel. Veel andere teams hebben hun line-up voor volgend jaar al bepaald, en zijn keuzes lijken steeds meer gelimiteerd.

Daarbuiten heeft de Mexicaan toegegeven dat hij alleen in de Formule 1 wil blijven wanneer hij bij een competitief team kan rijden. "Er is maar één optie", zo geeft Perez toe. "Ik heb het al eerder gezegd, ik ben hier nu al een tijdje en ik wil echt nog even door. Ik heb het gevoel alsof ik nu op de piek van mijn carrière zit", aldus de Mexicaan. "Maar ik wil ook doorgaan voor een bepaalde reden. Ik wil goed gemotiveerd blijven, en als ik merk dat ik mezelf niet 100% gemotiveerd kan houden dan denk ik dat het liever niet doe."

Ook werd hem gevraagd waarom het team uit Milton Keynes hem boven Alexander Albon of Nico Hulkenberg zou moeten kiezen. "Ik denk dat dat de verkeerde vraag is die ik mezelf stel", aldus Perez. "Ik kan natuurlijk mezelf de hemel in prijzen en mezelf wat dat betreft op pole-positie stellen voor het stoeltje, maar ik ben niet degene die over mij moet oordelen", zo vertelt Perez verder.

"Ik heb een duidelijk plan qua wat ik wil doen. Plan A is natuurlijk blijven in motorsport. Plan B is een jaar er tussenuit gaan om te kijken hoe erg ik het mis", aldus Perez. "Er zijn coureurs die na zes maanden gestopt te zijn helemaal gek worden en weer terug willen komen, maar ik heb zoiets nog nooit kunnen ervaren. Ik heb nog veel andere interesses naast motorsport. Maar nu ik nog jong ben wil ik nog steeds voor vol racen gaan", zo concludeert Perez.

Als ik RBR zou zijn zou ik echt wel voor Perez of Hulkenberg gaan.... Wat ze zelf in de stal hebben is gewoon niet goed genoeg voor de hoofdmacht...

Ze geven Albon nog 1 jaar, ik ga dit meer geloven, als je echt een andere rijder zou willen, dan had die al een contract.

  Misschien heb je gelijk. Ik denk dat ze sowieso pas na het seizoen een besluit nemen dan wel pas bekend zullen maken. Als ze dan niet kiezen voor Perez of Hulk en Albon blijft dan geloof ik niet dat RBR heel ambitieuze verwachtingen heeft voor 2021...

- geen gezichtverlies Helmut Marko voor het Junior programma

  Mee eens. Perez naar naar RBR! Ik zou het heel leuk vinden als hij samen met Bottas in dienst van Benz om de titel zou strijden. Maar dat is meer een wens.

Perez, niets om af te dingen aan jouw prestaties. Maar Marko en Horner staan onder immense druk van de Thaise aandeelhouders, om Albon ook voor 2021 te behouden. Als het aan Marko en Horner lag had Albon RB al lang verlaten.

Ik weet niet welke opties Perez binnen de F1 heeft, maar mij lijkt het geen slimme zet om op een paard te wedden.
Haas lijkt mij een optie voor Perez en denk dat Haas ook geen nee zou zeggen. Een jaar langs de lijn hopen het jaar erop een stoeltje te krijgen is een risico.
Je kunt zomaar in de vergetelheid raken en er zijn mensen die zicht afvragen hoe goed Perez is, want de Mercedes kopie waar hij in rijdt maakt ook veel.
Dus als ik hem was zou ik niet zomaar op RBR hopen, die gaan met Albon door als hij niet meer blundert..
