Max Verstappen over nieuwe onderdelen: "Werken niet"

Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen kan spreken van een productieve werkdag. De 23-jarige Nederlander reed in de eerste vrije training vooral met testapparatuur rond om de nieuwe aerodynamische onderdelen te testen. In de tweede vrije training mocht hij zich bewijzen, dat deed hij met een zeer goede tijd. De coureur met nummer 33 moest alleen de Mercedessen aan zich voorbij laten gaan.

Verstappen was in een goede bui vandaag, weer zag een Racing Point-coureur hem over het oog, maar de Nederlander lachte het weg. In de eerste vrije training was Verstappen minder blij met de bandentest van Pirelli en de nieuwe onderdelen die er getest moesten worden. “In de eerste (VT1) heb ik niet echt veel geracet, omdat we test dingen aan de auto hadden, maar ze leken niet te werken, maar verloren daar een aantal ronden. Het was moeilijk om erachter te komen welke compound de prototypes waren, het ontbrak enige grip en balans. Daarover praten we met Pirelli.”

De tweede training

Verstappen vervolgde zijn verhaal tegenover Sky Sports. “De tweede training was in orde, denk ik. Er zijn nog heel wat dingen om te begrijpen, maar het was over het algemeen een positieve vrijdag. Het zal duidelijk worden maar zoals je kunt zien zijn ze (de Mercedessen red.) weer snel en dat is geen verrassing. Maar we moeten ons concentreren op het krijgen van een beter evenwicht op de auto en op de race.”

“De banden zijn hier behoorlijk lastig, er is ronde na ronde veel degradatie. Er zijn nog een paar dingen waar je naar moet kijken voor kwalificatieprestaties, maar daar wil je niet naar kijken vanwege de degradatie in de race. Het is nooit perfect om eerlijk te zijn (balans) maar je kunt altijd kleine dingen vinden.”

RB heeft merc nog steeds niet bij gehaald terwijl merc de ontwikkeling allang heeft stil gezet voor deze auto ,gaat volgend jaar niet beter worden .
