Tempo analyse van vrijdag: kunnen Red Bull en Racing Point roet in het eten gooien?

Na de tweede vrije training van een Grand Prix-weekend hebben de data-analisten van Formule 1 veel data vergaard om een voorspelling te maken wat betreft de rangorde qua snelheid. Voor de Grand Prix van Bahrain - afgaande op de twee verreden trainingen - kunnen deze analisten concluderen dat wederom Mercedes het te kloppen team is. Red Bull staat daar achter, maar Racing Point is niet veel langzamer.

Snelheid over één ronde

Er is natuurlijk verschil tussen snel zijn over een hele race afstand, en snel zijn over één ronde. Ook over één ronde is het Mercedes die als snelste uit de verf komt. Zo lijkt het er op dat het team uit Brackley zo'n 0,5 seconde sneller is dan Red Bull Racing. Racing Point staat daar 0,1 achter, wat het team vertrouwen geeft voor de derde plek in het klassement. Er zit, echter, wel een kanttekening aan; deze zelfde analisten hebben kenbaar gemaakt dat Verstappen nog 0,7 seconde harder zou kunnen gaan. De Nederlander heeft geen representatieve tijd neergezet op de zachtste band, en reed zijn snelste tijd op de gele medium-band.

Race-snelheid

De analisten hebben ook aangetoond dat wederom Mercedes het snelste is wat betreft race-simulaties. Echter, Red Bull Racing schijnt maar 0,1 seconde per ronde langzamer te zijn. Ook Racing Point zit goed op het tempo; zij zijn slechts 0,3 seconde langzamer per ronde ten opzichte van Mercedes. Ook dit is een goed teken voor het toekomstige Aston Martin-team, aangezien Renault bijna een halve seconde langzamer is, en de punten die zondag worden gescoord zijn van groot belang voor het gevecht om P3 in het constructeurs-klassement.

Maar wel gebaseerd op een configuratie die in een training gebruikt werd. Vandaag rijden alle teams met de race configuratie, dus andere versnellingsbak/motor. Tevens werd er gisteren veel getest voor 2021. Ik verwacht Mercedes gewoon op de eerste rij vandaag. Daarachter Max en de RP’s, daarachter Albon.
