Bottas na tweede plek kwalificatie: "Ik weet niet waar het aan ligt"

Valtteri Bottas was niet in staat om de oppermachtige Lewis Hamilton te pareren of evenaren. De Fin wist zijn Mercedes op P2 te kwalificeren, fractioneel sneller dan Max Verstappen. Dit zei de negenvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar tegen David Coulthard.

"Ik weet niet waar het aan lag dat ik langzamer was", aldus Bottas. "Mijn ronde voelde goed. Ik had het gevoel alsof ik alles uit de auto heb gehaald, maar de rondetijd was er gewoon niet - dat is waar het uiteindelijk om draait." De Fin meent, echter, dat hij geen fouten heeft gemaakt, maar moet nog maar zien waar zijn gebreken lagen. "Meer dan dat de rondetijd er simpelweg niet was weet ik ook niet, vooral mijn laatste ronde was erg goed. Misschien waren er een aantal kleine dingen hier en daar, maar daar moet ik nog achterkomen."

Ook werd Valtteri gevraagd of er misschien een onderliggend probleem in zijn auto zit waarom hij geen snellere rondetijd eruit kon halen. "Nee, ik denk niet dat er een onderliggend probleem zit, ik was vandaag simpelweg niet snel genoeg", zo geeft Bottas toe. "De eerste startrij is nog steeds erg goed, en ook onze race-simulatie was erg positief, dus ik kijk uit naar morgen", zo concludeert Valtteri Bottas.

Ook al is het vrij zeker dat Valtteri tweede gaat blijven in het kampioenschap, wil de Fin vast en zeker een goed resultaat na zijn horror-weekend in Turkije. Hij zal er dan ook alles aan doen om een goede start te hebben en Lewis Hamilton het leven zuur te maken. Kan Valtteri de race winnen?

Dit seizoen heeft Bottas zich goed geweerd. Bottas had in zijn Williams periode jarenlang moeite met Massa, wiens gloriedagen toen al lang voorbij waren. Zegt genoeg.
