Leclerc na kwalificeren P12: "Ik kan mijn teleurstelling niet verbergen"

Charles Leclerc - de man die vorig jaar op dit circuit zijn eerste pole haalden - kwalificeerde vandaag voor de Grand Prix van Bahrain op de twaalfde plek. Ook staat hij achter zijn teamgenoot, iets dat dit seizoen amper is voorgekomen. De Monegask probeert optimisme te tonen, maar kan zijn teleurstelling niet verbergen.

Als eerste werd Charles gevraagd of hij blij is. "Een klein beetje", aldus Leclerc. "We zitten iets dichterbij de top 10, maar ik ben alsnog wel teleurgsteld. Op zich is P11 en P12 niet verkeerd, want we zijn dan de eersten die iets anders dan de top 10 kunnen proberen, maar we moeten nog maar zien hoe anders de strategieën dan gaan zijn", zo vertelt Leclerc. "We zijn inderdaad iets dichterbij de top 10, maar ik kan mijn teleurstelling niet echt verbergen."

Daarna werd de jonge Monegask gevraagd of zijn gevoel in de auto is verbeterd gedurende het weekend. "Ik weet het niet", aldus Leclerc. "Het is sowieso een moeilijk weekend. Ik heb het al lastig sinds de eerste vrije training. Dat gevoel werd niet beter", zo vertelt Leclerc verder. "In Q1 was dat wel ietsje fijner, maar in Q2 daarna had ik het erg lastig op de medium-banden; ik kon geen foutloos rondje rijden. Ik ga alles evalueren en zorgen dat het morgen gewoon goed is", zo concludeert de jonge Ferrari-coureur.

Charles Leclerc staat momenteel vijfde in het klassement, met drie punten achterstand op Sergio Perez. Het gevecht om vierde in het klassement ligt dus nog steeds wijd open, maar starten vanaf P12 is niet iets wat hem daarvoor in zijn voordeel werkt.

Op zich is plek 11, 12 niet verkeerd.....zegt een Ferrari coureur. Je zou er depressief van worden.

Een slordige kwalificatie van Charles. Hij zat ook nog Ocon in de weg toen laatstgenoemde bezig was aan een snelle ronde, dus mag van geluk spreken dat hij niet op het matje is geroepen. Morgen redden wat er te redden valt!

  Ik ben een enorme liefhebber van Ferrari, maar als ik een beetje langs de rode bril kijk, moet ik toch ook wel eerlijk toegeven dat de beslissingen aangaande Leclerc soms op zijn minst dubieus te noemen zijn.

  Charles heeft doorgaans de tegenwoordigheid van geest dat hij, als hij -zoals vandaag- in een controversiële situatie terecht komt, hij net weet te voorkomen dat zijn collega's er écht nadeel van ondervinden. Dat gezegd hebbende, blinkt de wedstrijdleiding anno 2020 niet uit in consistentie.

Met deze auto is het niks en wordt het niks. Volgend jaar een betere motor in opmars naar een hopelijk zeer snelle Ferrari in 2022.
