Tanabe over krachtbron Verstappen: "Honda-motor in de RB16 nog nooit zo veel vermogen gehad"

Honda ervaart tot nu toe een uitstekend weekend op het Bahrain International Circuit. Max Verstappen en Alexander Albon kwalificeerde derde en vierde respectievelijk, en Pièrre Gasly en Daniil Kvyat kwalificeerde achtste en tiende respectievelijk.

"Als je het vergelijkt met de derde vrije training, dan zijn sommige Honda-coureurs wat teruggevallen, maar dat mag de pret niet drukken", aldus de Honda-topman. "Al met al is dit nu al een prima weekend aangezien we voor de tweede keer dit seizoen zien dat alle Honda-gebruikers in de top 10 zijn gekwalificeerd", aldus Tanabe.

Tanabe onthult ook dat ze eigenlijk van plan waren om een andere spec krachtbron te gebruiken voor zaterdag. "Op zaterdag zouden we eigenlijk een andere krachtbron gebruiken, maar dat hebben we uiteindelijk toch maar niet gedaan", zo vertelt Tanabe nadat de AlphaTauri-monteurs de nachtklok verbraken vrijdagnacht. "Het leek alsof er iets mis was, maar dat hebben we opgelost. We hebben met de laatste paar weken goed met de teams samengewerkt, en we zijn daar beter van geworden", aldus Tanabe. "De Honda-krachtbron in de RB16 heeft nog nooit zoveel vermogen gehad."
