Honda: "Snelste raceronde van Max Verstappen was voor ons een bonus"

Max Verstappen en Alexander Albon stonden dit weekend in Bahrein voor het eerst samen op het podium. Het is sinds 2017 ook weer voor het eerst dat er twee Red Bull-coureurs het podium tegelijk mochten beklimmen, aangezien het al meer dan 3 jaar geleden was dat dit gebeurde.

Voor Honda was het een blij moment om beide Red Bull-coureurs op het podium te zien, maar uiteraard was de motorfabrikant opgelucht dat Romain Grosjean er met lichte verwondingen wegliep van zijn megacrash.

Toyoharu Tanabe zei na de Grand Prix van Bahrein: "Allereerst zijn we echt opgelucht dat Romain Grosjean met slechts lichte verwondingen uit dat vreselijke ongeval is gekomen. Zo'n crash hebben we jarenlang niet meegemaakt, maar het bewees hoe veilig de huidige Formule 1-auto's zijn en dat is te danken aan het harde werk van de FIA op het gebied van veiligheid gedurende alle jaren."

Na een rode vlag van bijna anderhalf uur was het mogelijk om weer van start te gaan op het Bahrain International Circuit. "Het was een solide prestatie van Red Bull en het was geweldig om beide coureurs op het podium te zien. Het was een positieve start van deze laatste triple-header met als bonus dat Max Verstappen de snelste raceronde reed."

Ook AlphaTauri kende een positieve middag. Pierre Gasly eindigde als zesde, Daniil Kvyat finishte net buiten de punten na een tijdstraf van tien punten. "Pierre was de enige coureur die voor een strategie met één pitstop ging en hij reed een intelligente en geduldige race en wist goed zijn banden te managen en als zesde te eindigen. Daniil eindigde net buiten de punten, zijn race werd gecompromitteerd door een penalty."

Dat heet race management, waarom brandstof en banden verbruiken en meer risico nemen terwijl zij toch al voorop rijden.
Wanneer Max gaat jagen zetten zij gewoon een tandje bij.

Dat is wel een ding wat me opviel , dat die Mercedesjes niet zo hard uitliepen en dat Max redelijk in het spoor kon blijven

  Is ook wat Max zei, Lewis had overal een antwoord op. Oftewel, hij heersde aan het front en bepaalde zijn snelheid op basis van wat Max achter hem deed. Dat heet domineren.

  Dat gat wordt sowieso al bij het vertrek getrokken door Hamilton, na een paar ronden is het alleen nog een kwestie van banden managen, na de 1e stop leiding houden en finishen.

Het ding is gewoon te snel. Dat die Bottas er een zooitje van maakte dat was wel duidelijk. Maar het is even het gas erop als Max aanzette en het gat werd weer groter, Dat is zeker ook Hamilton zijn verdienste. Maar dat ligt voor het grootste gedeelte aan die dominantste wagen allertijden.

Ik ben benieuwd wat Lewis zijn vervanger kan laten zien. Mocht die simpel 1/2 e worden dan weten we wel genoeg.

zou toch wat zijn, als bottas een absolute top race rijdt voor zijn doen, maar stoffel wint ;) Ik ga ervan uit dat stoffel hamilton zal vervangen...
