McLaren wil niet meewerken aan Young Driver Test van Sainz met Ferrari

McLaren-teambaas Andreas Seidl zegt dat zijn coureur Carlos Sainz niet mag testen voor Ferrari tijdens de Young Drivers-test na het seizoen in Abu Dhabu. Sainz zei gisteren dat zijn contract hem toestaat om op 15 december, twee dagen na de seizoensfinale in Abu Dhabi, bij Ferrari te gaan testen.

Hoewel die dag is aangemerkt als een test voor jonge coureurs, heeft Renault toestemming gekregen om Fernando Alonso te laten testen. De 39-jarige tweevoudig wereldkampioen is qua starts de derde meest ervaren F1-coureur aller tijden, met 311 races.

Sainz rijdt dit weekend zijn 117e race en zei gisteren dat hij ook aan de test zou mogen deelnemen. De McLaren-coureur zei dat hij wil proberen om ook te kunnen testen. Zijn huidige teambaas Andreas Seidl zei echter dat de regels duidelijk zijn dat alleen jonge coureurs mogen deelnemen aan de test.

"Allereerst spreken we nooit in het openbaar over de details van onze contracten met onze coureurs", zei hij. "De regels zijn duidelijk, dus ik zie geen enkele manier waarop Carlos de Ferrari gaat testen."

McLaren had de test kunnen gebruiken om aankomende coureur voor 2021 Daniel Ricciardo zijn eerste test in hun auto te geven. Het team besloot echter niet deel te nemen aan de test nadat eerder was besloten dat deze beperkt zou blijven tot alleen jonge coureurs. Seidl zei dat het nu te laat is om dat besluit terug te draaien.

"Voor ons is het duidelijk dat we op basis van de bestaande regelgeving daar niet kunnen rijden met een actieve Formule 1-coureur. Daarom hebben we, samen met alle andere teams, al in april besloten om niet aan deze test deel te nemen. En op dit moment denk ik dat het nog steeds geldt. Volgens ons is er geen plan om deze test uit te voeren."

Nee hoor. Hij heeft groot gelijk. De FIA zou zich moeten schamen dat ze Alonso laten rijden. Ik heb al gedacht, waarom helpen ze Renault, maar het gaat er eigenlijk om dat ze Ferrari helpen om Sainz te laten testen. Seidl werkt daar niet aan mee wat ik wel kan waarderen.

Prima. Als je een Ferrari coureur bent heb je dit slappe oefenmoment ook helemaal niet nodig. Carlos zou hier boven moeten staan.
Bij Alonso is het ook helemaal niet nodig maar kan je gezien alle omstandigheden nog wel in het verhaal mee gaan. Voor Carlos en Daniel is het gewoon grote onzin.

Fijne vent is die Seidl toch!
Ik zie tot op heden louter zinnige en positieve dingen van zijn hand.

Ik snap dat Sainz en Ferrari dit in de slipstream van Alonso/Renault proberen al is het best opportunistisch, maar ach.
Overigens is de situatie van Sainz niet eens vergelijkbaar met die van Alonso

Dit is gewoon heel goed consequent. Norris had al kritiek op het feit dat Alonso zou rijden dan zou het nu gek zijn om Sainz hetzelfde te laten doen. Norris bepaald natuurlijk het beleid niet van Mclaren maar het is wel goed om als team dezelfde mening te hebben.

Ondertussen gaat het gekibbel tussen Renault en Racing Point gewoon door! Leuk hoor! :-) Die commentaren over en weer zijn ook wel een artikel waard; Cyril en Otmar zullen hoogstwaarschijnlijk niet bij elkaar langsgaan deze kerstdagen!

Ik snap die hele heisa niet.. kijk eens naar de young drivers test van de afgelopen jaren... ene dag zat er een jonge coureur in en de andere dag een ervaren coureur.. (of gingen half om half.. en de Abu Dhabi tests van vorige jaren was nu nou ook niet echt een young drivers test..

Die test zal het hele jaar tegen Alonso gebruikt worden: doet hij het goed dan is dat vanwege de test, doet ie het niet goed dan ondanks de test ;-)

Alonso zou dit zelf niet moeten willen en de eer aan zichzelf moeten houden.
